that must have been ****ed- Having that puncher in your face and not giving you any space to punch- espescially for a guy like louis who knew what to do in the ring but he just didnt have the reflexes or speed to do it

Thank you Rocky for these pictures of the GREATEST heavyweight of my lifetime...If Doug Jones could give hell to Ali, what would a Joe Louis,
bigger, a faster puncher, with the most powerful punching combinations
in history do to Ali, both in their primes ? Kod Ali, i say...:good

And if Billy Conn outboxed Louis then id hate to see what Ali would do to him. As great as Joe was, he didnt have the footwork to catch Ali.

Oh I see ! But Ken Norton in 3 fights had the footwork, Doug Jones had the footwork, but the young joe Louis who cut off the ring as good as anyone in history, didn't have the footwork. Now I get it !!
By the way billy Conn without the fancy showboating, was just as fast and elusive as Ali. Size aside, Conn in his weight class was as good a boxer as Ali, without the glitz and glamour...Sometimes it is harder to hit a small target than a larger one, methinks...

Completely exactly right on that Burt - it bugs the hell out of me when people use that lame argument about well if Billy Conn could outbox Louis then what would Ali do - Billy Conn fought the fight of his life no question and he went for it hell for leather with inside fighting aswell - he tried to out gut Louis and failed - he got KNOCKED OUT - and by a Louis who over trained himself completely to come in under 200lbs as stipulated in the contract - BOTTOM LINE IS CONN COULD RUN BUT HE COULDN'T HIDE - Jersey Joe in my opinion a better mover than Conn got caught aswell by an older Louis - the young Louis of 1935 IMO cut off the ring and trapped you better than any heavyweight in history and when he did you'd suffer - Ali for all his scintillating ability would suffer aswell like anyone else

    jesus christ

some of these pictures are just amaizng

Does anyone else think that Dempsey has the biggest forearms to body proportion out of any heavyweight? Those things are not human man. Even in pictures wheres hes 70 years old, those things are freakish.

Those Louis pictures are great too

dempseys hands in many photos look like shovels,as his biographer
Roger Kahn, has made mention of...An early British writer, Jimmy Butler, after seeing him close up, described Dempsey "as if nature sculpted the perfect boxer ", when seeing Jack close up for the first time...The
young terribly ferocious Jack Dempsey was a force of nature, before his
