i hope this is taken in the right way here...and not seen as me trying to push this for any wrongful gain...this was a simple blog i did that never really got looked at much, not that it bothered me as my intention was just having some place online where i could scan from my various books and magazines on boxing history and use for my own reference..linking in posts from time to time if a certain fight / fighter was discussed. anyway...its mainly scans and articles from what i have collected over the years....someone may get something out of it, i dunno. a good bit of this is in bits and pieces threads i have on the various boxing forums i frequent, but a lot of it isn't...i also have the facebook page but it wasnt getting much feedback and i felt i was almost spamming trying to keep it going when there wasnt much feedback. very niche area of interest is boxing history i found. http://classicboxingsociety.blogspot.ie .
here's a an article scanned from a 1960's magazine....The furious fights between Stanley Ketchel and Joe Thomas.. http://www.classicboxingsociety.blogspot.ie/2015/05/the-furious-fights-between-stanley.html
loved some of your articles that i was reposting on the facebook page...one paragraph that really stuck with me was about terry mcgovern.. "They ran him like a dog and then rubbed him down with witch-hazel. They fed him meat, which he loved and was given to as much as possible. Then they took turns fighting him and by nine he was in bed and asleep. When he reached the required poundage, everything stopped, he rested, suddenly and preternaturally still, patiently awaiting the removal of the invisible chain."
I've seen photos of Ketchel dressed in a sports jacket and trousers and he still looks like the baddest man out there
