As requested, a match-up from 2002 between Richard Williams and Paul Samuels. At the time, 'The Secret' was a fast-rising, highly touted fighter being groomed for an assault at world level. In the opposite corner, Welshman Samuels had built up a decent unbeaten record, but came unstuck in a step up against the big punching Wayne Alexander. Although he thrilled everyone with his performance against Alexander, large periods of inactivity - two low-key fights in two years - had made Samuels a somewhat forgotten figure in the thriving light middleweight scene at the time. Samuels wasn't expected to be a threat in this fight, but he hadn't read the script. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ea-kGGsVbxs[/ame] Previous fights in this 'series': 1. Samuels was also in two fights with Cello Renda, one of which featured the classic double knockdown - [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCU389zi4wc[/ame]
No problem :good From the controversial knockout loss to Barker, the wars with Alexander and Williams, the speedy loss to a green Groves and those Renda fights, it's safe to say Samuels has had an eventful career! I was a bit shocked at the news when I heard about it. Hopefully he just sticks to a certain level like Robin Reid has (so far, at least...) and fulfils whatever the reason he has for coming back.
