After beating light welterweight contender Paulie Malignaggi last Saturday night by an 11th round stoppage, WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan is looking into the future at bigger things, saying “I hope the Americans love my style and I want to fill stadiums and arenas like I did in the UK.” Khan appears to be putting the cart before the horse in his eagerness to become a huge star in the United States. He just beat Malignaggi, a good B+ fighter, and already Khan is talking about huge things like filling stadiums. Khan has yet to face the cream of the crop at light welterweight and is looking way ahead of himself at bigger things. You can’t blame Khan for wanting to fill stadiums and arenas. That’s something worthy to aspire to. However, at this point it seems rather silly given that Khan has only faced the following fighters at light welterweight: Andriy Kotelnik, Dmitri Salita and Paulie Malignaggi. The names that Khan will have to beat for him to become a star in the light welterweight division are fighters like Devon Alexander, Tim Bradley, Marcos Maidana and Victor Ortiz. Thoughts anyone?

Don't really care based on this reason...

who doesn't want to fill up a stadium?

I mean when a boxer starts out, shouldn't he aspire to be a champion even if he's facing his first opponent who has a losing record, most losses by KO?

That maybe so. But Khan and his fans are already talking about Mayweather and Pacman after a win against Malignaggi. Get my drift?

I get your drift, but I blieve most would say he'd get destroyed if that fight were made. As it pertains to his actual quote...there's nothing wrong with his quote.

Nothing wrong in wishing for big things. Yea, but one step at a time.

If Naseem hamed could fill up Joe Louis stadium in Michigan (Arab-American central) when he fought Cesar Soto, then it is not so far fetched for amir to dream that one day he can also fill up Joe Louis stadium in one of his championship fights.

I agree totally, but he is heading for a fall. He needs to beat the best guys at 140 first. Talking about Mayweather and Pacman is just a joke. Pacman would have him outta there in the first round, Floyd would school him so bad he would cry to his mother. He talks to much and needs to prove himself the best at 140 first. I'm sorry but beating Malignaggi don't make you the best out there. Talk is cheap.

He has beat two of the top 10 light welters in the world. He shouldn't have to waste time with scrubs , it's good he Is looking to fight the top guys in the division . I don't get your argument that he is getting ahead of himself , it seems you're being a bit delusional

A lot of people are falling for Khan's hype. He dodges his mandatory in Maidana to fight feather fisted Malignaggi and some people are calling him the next big thing. Too funny!
