    Here you go PUG.

Lampley during round 7 ''just remember that Kazak national boxing coach Alex Apichinski (spelled wrong probs) raised Jirov on a diet of such strange exercises such as putting him in a closed hallway with german shepards piped to the gills or dropping him in the middle of a lake 3 miles from shore and peddling off''.

Holyfield-Qawi is one of the most underrated fights ever, and Thompson-Eubank is the same.

I treid to copy the link for my(General) thread for you Skills;"Which of your favorite fighters less celebrated fights do you enjoy?" but searching is disabled.
You should check it put mate.Think it'd be right up your street mate.
The cruisers and light heavies have always been treated like the poor relations in boxing, but it's a sticking point for me when you think of some of the great fights and fighters who have never recieved their due credit.
Virgil Hill,Charles Williams and Qawi are just a few examples.

Found this Pug from this forum in another thread.

His amateur trainer and Kazakh legend Aleksandr Apachinsky's unusual training techniques are pretty infamous.

    - Jirov would be brought out to the middle of one of the largest lakes in the world, made to jump in the water and then left there, forced to swim miles back to shore.

    - For speed and fearlessness he placed Jirov in a narrow hallway and would have him run to the other end...with a trained German Shepherd attack dog right behind him. Occasionally Jirov would object to this dog race, but the trainer told him, 'if you don't want to do it, go away'. Scars from their teeth left a permanent memento on his wrists and back.

Thanks PTF will do that mate, I agree it's mad how good these fights are and talented the fighters are but it's just overlooked really. So much talent has passed through that weight.

Fair does to Holy though, most people thought Qawi was going to eat him up alive!

Will have a watch of it, Never actually got around to seeing it but heard nothing but great things. Why they have Qawi as fav, Gaz?. I take it Holyfield was still early in pros and hadn't faced a test like that?.

It was only Holy's 12th fight & 2nd year as a pro, he'd never been past 8 rounds before. Qawi was a beast, bar an early loss he'd only been beaten by Micheal Spinks & he'd just kicked the **** out of his brother Leon.

Holy was the betting favourite but no-one knew if he could go 15 rounds with a great, iron-chinned pressure fighter. Nobody had been able to take the fight to Qawi & survive but Holy traded with him & outworked him. The pace of the fight is breathtaking, Holy ended up in hospital after the fight due to severe dehydration & he has always said the Qawi I was his finest win.

Qawi was a beast, slightly past his best at Cruiser but Holy had also up from 175. I thought he'd get the better of Holyfield over 15 rounds. Qawi-Leon Spinks is also worth a watch if you are a sadist!
