Using history as benchmark, not really. Monzon and Hagler had their share of facing blown up welters, and in some cases lightweights, and had worse performances.

Brook was the top welterweight in the world.36-0, 25 Ko's in his prime at age 30. Wasn't he on the Rng Magazine's top ten pound for pound list?

He got hurt early, suffered broken facial bones and lasted under six rounds, but you can't say he had a bad performance. Brook was pretty sharp, he just couldn't deal with the bone crushing power of GGG. I'm not sure if anyone @160 could today can.

No, I think the reaction that Golovkin has received bears out my point. If he lost he would be written off as a hype job.

As it is, he beat Brook in a strong performance resulting in fifth round TKO. However, the theme in large part is that the fight was a farce and he was fighting a much smaller man.

But many past greats at middle did the same thing, and to be truthful struggled even more vs lower weight fighters moving up. GGG is was in a no win situation. you say? Why?

I think Brook will be the man at 154. If this happens, all of a sudden GGG's win goes up a notch. And he'd didn't just beat him, he broke facial bones on one of his worst nights.

Who says Brook is the top welterweight in the world who has he beaten to earn that standing? Garcia,Thurman?
He has a majority dec over Porter that's about it. Monzon fought plenty of big middleweights and so did Hagler.

Golovkin did not respect Brooks power and so his defence was sloppy ,he hasn't much head movement at the best of times.Golovkin may already have peaked ,at 34 he isn't going to improve now.Brook put up an excellent fight but ultimately wasn't naturally big enough to take the power he might have lasted another round ,perhaps 2 but to what purpose he would have been badly beaten up and possibly ruined.

lol. Same ol excuses over and over. Just like with Wlad... He'll look good next time out when he drops down a few levels back to Wade and Munroe territory

News flash silly... Nobody wants to look bad against a guy brought up from two divisions lower. What you saw is what he is.

Of course. And he should think that. He's by far the biggest threat to GGG around his weight.

Canelo vs. GGG will be an absolute fireworks display. They both can throw big shoulder snap punches. They both have guts. It will be the polar opposite of Manny vs. Floyd.

That's a little optimistic given what's gone before!

    But here's hoping.

Alvarez knows he has to fight this monster eventually. A man in his shoes will welcome every sign of spotting weaknesses in Golovkin. If I'm Alvarez, I just gained a lot of confidence after watching the Brook fight.

He won't be able to walk though Alvarez's punches like he did Brooks.

Golovkin's defence didn't impress but his power and precision did. Scary power.

Brook was #1 rated by Ring Magazine. He beat Porter currently rated #4 at welterweight and took his undefeated record away from him.

You could argue Thruman is better, but he has had fewer fights. Monzon and Halger had some legacy fights vs welters and below. This is GGG's first fight vs a top ranked welter, and even though it wasn't one his better nights, we saw the damage done.
