Examples where the long guy with long arms lost to a guy with shorter arms? There are literally thousands of examples of this happening within all the divisions of boxing.

All the times Frazier or Tyson won a fight would offer many explanations. Having longer arms did not help Price much last night either.

Larry Holmes and Gerry Cooney had longer arms than Michael Spinks. Dempsey had shorter arms than Willard and co. Louis had shorter arms in fights he won too.

Since Holyfeild retired we see this less and less in championship heavyweight boxing. It could be inarguable.

Four years on, and a different ref, and I think Sasha could have pulled that trick, too.

Marvin Hagler beat Hearns. Leonard beat Hearns. Don Curry beat McCrory. Quawi beat everybody he beat with shorter arms. Marcel Cerdan, dulio loi? Nicholino loche? Do you really want me to name a thousand?

You want me to name more, when you wont name 30 heavyweights who hit harder with a right hand than ingos bingo!

    Are you f*cking stupid?

Listing the fighters who won despite a reach advantage is NOT the same as listing fights in which having a longer reach was not an advantage. That's an idiotic claim.

You must be capable, at the very least, of understanding and explaining the difference between a reach advantage "being a disadvantage" (your words- i almost can't type them; you are claiming that having a longer reach is a disadvantage in some fights) and fights where a fighter with shorter reach was able to overcome the longer reach of his opponent. You are saying that having a reach advantage was a DISADVANTAGE in Hearns-Leonard? That Hearns would have done BETTER with shorter arms/arms the same length as Leonard's?

You have just literally listed fights where the shorter reach fighter has won. It's an incredible waste of my time.

Why would long arms give an HW an advantage over someone in another division? That advantage carries throughout the divisions IMO.

You were the one who said I considered long arms a disadvantage. I didn’t. It’s simply something you implied that I must mean. I merely said sometimes the shorter man wants jabs (like Tyson did) aimed at him so he could work off their lead. It discourages the guy with the longer arms from throwing jabs or leading off. If you want to call that a disadvantage of reach that’s on you. Not me.

You did. You claimed that Rocky Marciano was not at a dis-advantage against Sonny Liston despite Liston's enormous reach advantage because a huge reach advantage was not always - an advantage. But rather that the much smaller, less rangier man, was at an advantage, because he could come under the jab and the time it would take the longer fighter to retract allowed chances for punches to be thrown.

You were absolutely clear about it.

Again, you have failed to understand the post.

    You made this claim:

But have somehow forgotten in the ten minutes since

The question has literally nothing to do with me, as I did not involve myself. The question is JUST about you.

But thanks for thinking of me x

No what I'm saying is you have an advantage in any division if you have a bigger reach.

His latest claim is that he never claimed a reach advantage was a disadvantage. So, nothing to do with him...

In certain situations once the range has been broken and the shorter man is already in close range, once he’s already inside the reach of the longer arms, he has full leverage at that point. At that close range the guy with the longer arms has less leverage at that range.

The shorter arms can be an advantage inside. Longer arms are not quite as much use inside. But the key is getting inside and negating the reach advantage in the first place. The fighter has to be good at that part to get an advantage.

This must be what I meant. That can be the only point I had wanted to make however long ago it was. Now I would rather not argue about this at Easter but I think You are wrong about this or confused.

Yes technically (and actually) having a longer arm is considered a reach advantage. I don’t know what McGrain is saying.

So, just to be clear, you would say that a reach advantage IS an advantage?
