I agree, even the better ones like Witherspoon were green 16 fight guys when Larry fought him and the 19-8 Weaver was a tremendous no chance underdog that gained confidence from his fight with Larry

I could be argued that Michael Spinks who never fought at heavyweight before was Holmes most outstanding challenger

He lost 120-104 in the prime of his life against Wlad. I wouldn't go that far.

Perhaps a little over my skis on him, but he had the power and punch selection to get to Waldo.

Atlas had his career in moth*****.

Wlad loses to Povetkin is a clean and fair boxing match. Of that there is absolutely no doubt.

But Wlad is better than Pulev.... Just about.

you argue that a LHW is larrys best challenger. and yet with the same breath claim that giant fatboys are superior to ali, frazier and larry on account of their size.

What s crock of **** you post.

    Not this version of Povetkin.

According to my sources, Waldo was the first guy to floor Povetkin in 27 pro and 130+ amateur fights. I'm pretty sure this streak extended into his kickboxing career, also.

I like Povetkin a lot when he shows up in shape and motivated. But Wlad is just extremely gifted and knows how to work with those gifts. Until he gets old overnight, he would always have the upper hand.

With all the experts picking the past of who would have beaten who,I am curious to see who the smartest guys on ESB will be picking for the Wilder - Stiverne fight, I think some questions may be answered about both men and the winner gets Vlad

Can we get classic picks on tomorrows fights between Wilder and Stiverne ?

Who are you picking and how?

Personally Bummy, I don't think this fight is worthy of Classic's attention.

This is a fight that is between a genuine contender (Stiverne) and an unranked puncher (Wilder) who has generated an eliminator by virtue of the fact that he is a promising American. I acknowledge that there might be fireworks, but that’s true of any number of fights.

Of course, for many, this is NOT an eliminator but for the “world title”. Just a reminder that the “title” they are fighting for is about as ludicrous as they come and that the way their rankings are devised are basically meaningless. Bryant Jennings for example, leapfrogged his way up the WBC rankings from #37 in August 2013 to #3 in October. Without fighting. Without having a fight. He gained 34 spots without doing boxing. Wilder meanwhile has stormed up to the #1 spot beating atrocious competition. WBC have been determined that an American would fight for its title because that is where the money is.

This fight is attractive, but has come about due to corruption at the highest level, and I think that’s worth keeping in mind.

However, as you started the thread i've merged it into this one here.

Wilder is perhaps the most protected title challenger in years. He hasn't beaten a top 30 guy. The KO over Scott looked very fishy, and had some saying it was a dive. That was the fight that moved him in positon for the title.

With a known shaky chin, and unknown stamina ( never been past 4 rounds ) , boxing history strongly suggest Wilder is going to lose.

Don King is already talking about has beens or never will be's to fight Wilder next. Holyfield himself hinted that boxing sometimes picks the guy they want to win.

Stiverene for his part has solid skills. He has quick hands and can punch. A little risk adverse, I think he catches Wilder and gets a TKO inside of five rounds.

If Stiverene some how losses via a phantom punch or bad decision....

I have Stiverne a strong favourite here.

Wilders people obviously know that he has durability issues, or they would have matched him against some tougher opposition, if only from a pragmatic standpoint. Their plan has been to get him to a title shot by the easiest possible route, then hope that his power carries the day without a mishap.

My guess is that it doesn't, and that the limited but unquestionably world class Stiverne proves too much.

Me too. Yet the odds makers say Wilder is favorite. Why?
