I would like to see Jennings vs someone else in the top ten. You could say his performance was better than David Haye's vs Wlad. I'd like to see Fury next, then Wilder. Based on styles and the way they match up Wlad ko's Fury in spectacular fashion.

Wilder would not last long either.

Jennings is very well conditioned and has good ring generalship, he is a smart guy in and outside the ring and takes his business seriously. That being said unless the 39 year old Vlad gets old overnight he is a huge step up for Jennings. Vlad has to keep the fight on the outside but Jennings has a 84 inch reach so Vlad may have to adjust. Vlad should fight the same way he fought Haye and maintain his pace and attack conservatively and think 12 but wait for the strike.

Jennings has to set the pace and tee off when he can. Both men are in fine condition. Vlad by stop or decision.

This was my pre-fight opinion....I thought Jennings did well to survive but in honesty I was not as impressed as the HBO commentators. Jennings fought a Kevin Johnson kind of fight except that he flurried to the body inside when he felt safe but no real telling punches.

Vlad finished the fight strong in the 12th when Jennings pressed and then Jennings went back in his shell. I gave Jennings 2 rds and one may have been even then the point deduction. Vlad is 39 but still had a dominant victory despite Kellerman and the others jumping from nutsack to nutsack.

I still pick Povetkin to beat Jennings and Wilder should as well.

I have to give Vlad much credit at 39 fighting all styles and ages but it may be time to get out on top. No one gives Lennox much slack for bowing out of a big money rematch with Vitali and Vlad is older and has not had a fight that was as close as Lewis-Vitali

If Vlad wants to go to 65 wins against Fury (I favor Vlad with some risk) he may be tempted to fight Wilder after and that fight could be too much at 40 year of age. Wilder can punch and is large. I heard reports that when they sparred Vlad dropped Wilder several times and could have KO'd him but time can change all things.

I dont think so Haye was expected to do more but he did better against Vlad then Jennings did, IMO Jennings fought more like Keven Johnson SAFE but more than survival and was not close to winning or even having a dominant round. Is Vlad that good that people praise a guy that wins 2 rds.....still like I said in a previous post Vlad is 39 and 40 years old at the top may be pushing it unless he goes the route of Larry Holmes and fights the end of the top 15 of one organization, drops the other belts and avoids the unification

Besides Fury, which I think is a relatively easy fight for Wlad due to Fury's lack of hand and foot speed and his poor defense there doesn't seem to be that many difficult fights for Wlad.

Deontay doesn't seem like a tough fight either to me since Wlad can push him around a lot because of the strength/weight difference.

Who else is there after these guys? Lucas Browne, Glazkov?

The toughest fight will probably be Anthony Joshua in 2-3 years if Wlad hangs around.

I think the reason he did not push was because he felt the power Vlad had. The level went up much from the guys you mentioned and its hard to be so defensive and win, when you take chances you get hit and Jennings got hit quite a bit in the 12th when he took a chance.

Klitschko proved a lot to me last night .. he is 39 years old .. he fought a physically large, fast, strong, hard punching, well conditioned, confident fighter with a terrific chin who challenged him with movement and combination punching .. this fight more than almost any other shows how much better Wlad has gotten .. he did not panic when pressed. He did not hyperventilate from getting tagged with solid body shots midway through a fight .. Wlad, again at 39, kept his cool, shifted his game and beat the man .. all things considered I was impressed with what he was able to do ..

    He

I was really looking forward to hearing your opinion on this fight. Thanks for sharing. I agree with a lot of what you wrote.

As a huge Wlad fan...I will add last night I was sad. For the first time I noticed significant signs of wladimir being past his prime..especially from a physical standpoint. Wlad has 1-2 good fights left. He needs to fight fury and wilder them retire on top. Both will be a huge challenge for him at 40 years old but it will add to his legacy. Fury the best superheavyweight Wlad has ever faced and wilder a mega unification fight . Wlad beats both in my opinion. Always felt Wlad performs better against taller opponents

Jennings is the real deal. He will win a title someday. He is one of the 5 best heavyweights In the world today

Wlad needs to stop weighing in so light at 241lb. It weakens him. He looks healthier stronger more powerful at 248.

I would be curious to here opinions on 2 things....
    1) Who has declined less at 39 than Wlad? And if so, were they likely free of PEDS.

    2) The 1st article I read about the fight faulted Wlad for much clinching, even coming in without punching. Is this a valid critique, or an overstatement?

IS he "Grab 'em Near Clinch-co"?

Should he have been penalized earlier & more because it was unsportsmanlike & could have effected the fight's outcome, even if unknown how much?

It depends on the fight. In a match where extra stamina and mobility is needed 241 is fine.

I don't think Wlad declined much at all as his legs and defensive reflexes were good. Those things decline first. They have declined with Mayweather, but not with Wlad.

I just see it as an off type of night vs. an opponent who offered good defense, different angles, a good chin and some guts. Wlad showed us who he was in round 12. If Jennings opted to trade at long range of 1/2 distance, he's getting knocked out. Wlad hurt him a bit in round 12.

My main disappointment is with Banks. He's a few steps down from Steward. I found his advice to rather poor. If your opponent has the Winky Wright / Mike Moorer elbows locked /stick your gloves in a u shape near your face, you step around a bit and deliver a hook behind the guard. Or you jab until he tenses up, then deliver a hook to the body.

Did Banks say anything outside of just box him? ALthough Wlad does not hit much in a clinch, he could / should.

If I were Bonte ( Wlad's manager ) I tell Wlad to let Banks work on other people, and pick Tommy Brooks or Mayweather sr.

I think Wlad should stick with what he's got, personally. He's on the record stating it's that chat before the fight that Banks delivers that makes the difference in the ring and I'm happy to take him at his word. As we discussed earlier, few men in the world have his experience in these kind of fights and I don't think he needs advice in the corner particularly.
