Look, McVey, you've denoted the #1 HW contender a journeyman with no power and no skill. Most ridiculous you've claimed he pushes with his jab. Everyone knows he has an excellent jab; it is known. It's ludicrous, it's stupid. You either don't know what you're looking at or you're so blinded by your dislike for Wlad that you've stooped to making stuff up; either way, nobody is going to take that seriously. It's a non-starter, there's nothing to continue: you're wrong.
Yeah it's like - Pulev is a world-class fighter, who has beaten other world-class fighters, but he got completely out-classed. It's a phenomenal thing to do, and what needs to be unerlined is that Wlad did it in a second way. It was messy, it was ungainly, but it is pretty much exactly what his critics have been calling for. He didn't pick the wings off the fly, he was chucking dynamite against the best heavy in the world bar himself. Yes, some people are getting overexcited about it like they do after every big fight, but Jesus H Christ, credit where it is due.
The left hook which finished matters was a beaut, and Wladimir gets bonus points for its sneaky execution. Depriving the big man of credit is not an option. Deciding on the amount to be given is increasingly tricky. Pulev's record and official ranking could not mask the palpable holes in his game, and after watching his demise it is not unreasonable to think of those credentials as candy floss. Though thirty-seven and stopped a few times, it was apparent that Jersey Joe Walcott was firing on all cylinders the night he fought Rocky Marciano. Last night the number one contender stuttered like a dyslexic reciting Nietzsche.
Yeah, that's what I saw. I didn't see "boring", "over cautious" or "scared/gun shy". And nor did his critics. He beat that guy up for 4 rounds then knocked him flat and cold in the 5th. So, it becomes "he was sloppy", "he got hit !" ... and inevitably, "he should have done him in TWO rounds !" Yeah, okay, whatever. No one's perfect. :conf
Pulev has looked good in the past. So has Povetkin. You could say the same for Ibragimov and Haye. Wlad makes his opponents look bad. Wlad's just got too much skill power, size, stamina, defense, footwork and smart for the others. But when these others face different opponents their skills can be appreciated.
The issue is not that Wlad is dominating a strong crop of contenders, the issue is that even in a weak era somebody ought to be able to achieve something against him. Pulev was a very credible challenger, and he just got dominated.
McVey is a moron best read for comedic purposes. How can he say Pulev had the heart of a journeyman? Your reply was perfect.
Chris, Wlad was up on his toes bouncing around when he wanted to. His footwork was fine. It's just different vs. a big man who can land at times. In this fight Wlad decided to let his hands goes early. The hook is even deadlier than his right cross. Retire? Not a chance. Besides Wlad's tends to irk a minority group who has had nothing but sour grapes in their mouth for ten years. It's not wine. . More like vinegar. I hope he fights for at least two more years. The post fight reactions to him winning are always "classic"
One interesting factoid, is that Wlad still draws inspiration from the Brewster fight. Brewster had some business cards printed showing himself knocking out Wlad, and Wlad carries one with him even today, to remind himself of the pain of loosing.
I think there is always an uneasiness when Vlad fights because of his past losses but they were a long time ago and he has improved, I used to feel the same way about Lewis that he would detonate when hit but both men have improved. While Lewis seemed to be be more fluid and Vlad a bit stiff at times I think Vlad has gifts Lewis does not. Vlads left hook is incredible and we are aware of his right hand. His jab is among the best and you are right Pulev took it away but he left himself open to the hook. Lewis had the uppercut and Vlad looks awkward when he attempts it but Vlad has always shown one punch power in either hand and late power. I also agree that it would be a good time for Vlad to start thinking about hanging them up while on top of his game....let the other guys all fight to determine a challenger and if they dont want to participate they are out- one more fight for Vlad but let Jennings-Fury-Stilverne-Wilder-Chisoria? fight each other for the right to be worthy. Stilverne has been inactive and his best wins has been over Areola who lost to Vitali and Adamek already lets see who is worthy
