Janitor, Good Post. Wlad will always have a chip on his shoulder. Wlad could still be knocking out top contenders 5 years from now at age 43, and you will still see the critics out at full forces talking about how Wlad has "No Chin", "got knocked out by two C level Journeyman"...It's amazing how these losses happened 10-15 years ago, and people still won't let them go. Can't they see the man is a completely different fighter now? Wlad's story of resilience and rediscovery after 2004 is one of the best in boxing today. Would make for a good read someday.
I know this wasn't aimed at me, but I might've come off like one of those with my previous post. To clear some possible misconceptions: I thoroughly enjoyed the fight. The fact that Wlad destroyed the #2 contender in 5 rounds with three knockdowns is a massive boost to his resume. Not to mention he did it at age 38. Last month, I made a list of champions in terms of one-punch KOs scored against rated opponents. Wlad was, I believe, tied for first with Marciano and Tyson. He now added another one-punch KO over a rated opponent, cementing his power as absolutely top-tier in the history of heavyweight boxing. I still think highly of Pulev. He did what he had to do to win; it back-fired. Those first round KDs took his play away. The cut and swelling from that single one left hook just seconds later. Wow. Still, I think Wlad looked disorganized and less coordinated/well-timed than, say 2009 and before. I think he's been declining slowly but steadily. Note that Klitschko was still relatively measured in the number of right hands/left hooks he threw. It's just that the jab - which otherwise fills the void - seemed to be completely absent last night. I admit that thinking about Lewis-Grant, the performance is more forgivable.
Ok Classic People, Wlad has now beaten the best heavyweights of this era outside of his brother(Chagaev, Pulev, Povetkin, Haye, Ibragimov)....who is left for him to fight? Who should Wlad fight next? I say Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder. It would be a nice scalp for Wlad's resume to destroy a young big top rated fighter who could be a future champion when Wlad retires.
I agree Chris. Wlad is not the same as he was around the Chagaev fight(which was his peak I think)...but he still is an absolute monster out there. I think he has about 2-3 really good fights left.
You stupid ****! This is my post. "He showed heart and the skill level of a journeyman" Now, take your time form the words with your mouth as you read! If I had wanted to say Pulev had the heart of a journeyman ,[whatever that is,] I would have typed the following. "He showed THE heart and skill level of a journeyman". Do you understand it now? What are you 36 ? Educated in the richest country in the world and you have the reading skills of a ******ed chimp. My 5 years old grandson has more literacy acumen than you. Do you know, if I was publicly embarrassed like you are everytime you open your moronic mouth I would shoot my ****ing self. And stop sucking McGrain's dick ,he doesn't like you anymore than he likes me. ****ing Rainmanatsch
But if he beats Stiverne and beats him convincingly, making the guy look amateurish in the process, you'd come on here with reasons why it was a bad performance from the champ and Stiverne not fighting the proper fight, off night etc., The topic seems to steal your reason, prompting you to write sheer nonsense. Fiction. It's almost as if you enter an alternative world or reality.
So apparently Klychko broke Pulev's cheekbone, nose, possibly jaw (mentioned but not confirmed) and has a severe concussion. Part of me is ashamed to admit but i am interested in the Fury fight solely due to the size factor, i always wanted a Valuev fight too, so i'm rooting for him against Chisora. That said there is no way he can take Klychko's power and his size will force Vova to be more aggressive like yesterday i can envision a Lennox vs Grant/Golota situation with Tyson getting bombed out inside 2 or 3 rounds. Athletically i thought he looked great last night and hope he doesnt retire in the next year or two. If Jennings, Stiverne, Wilder, Fury, etc are fighting it out for the Undisputed Championship it will be too demeaning for the division. Klychko could clear out that batch without too much trouble IMO they have little more than a punchers chance the only serious threat is Joshua if he continues to develop without any issues. Clear out the next generation then retire with everyone knowing that they were no match for a 40 year old version of a true ATG that proceeded them.
No I would say he did well. I said before the fight it would be a win for Wlad because I never thought anything of Pulev, I don't give a **** if he is unbeaten imo he's beaten average fighters no matter where they are ranked. Stiverne has a very good punch ,if he lands it on Wlad, the Ukrainian is going down, but he must go for it. Pulev had nothing to bother Wlad with, but on the odd occasion he got through the champion was all at sea, he is a jab and grab merchant but even he could see the Bulgarian was wide open. I think Wlad looked sloppy and I don't give a **** if I'm on my own in that opinion.
Fury has a worse chin than Wlad and does not possess the boxing skill or power of the Ukrainian. Unless age catches up with him on the night, I see an early night for Fury. who may get dusted by Chisora anyway.
I was impressed and highly entertained in yesterday's fight. I thought it was a great win for Wlad. As for Wlad's next opponent it will likely be Bryant Jennings's America's best Heavy (sorry Deontay) and then the winner of Wilder/Stiverne. However I have reservations that either man would step in the ring with Wlad. Haymon has a history of trying to keep his fighters away from their best competition and we all know Don King. He kept Ruiz away from Wlad like the plague would not be surprised if he does same with Stiverne. We know Wlad wants it though. We have to wait for the dust to settle from that fight and Chisora/Fury
Jennings Fury/Chisora Stiverne/Wilder Actually Povetkin, Leapai and Pulev were all mandatories and since he has the WBA Super belt he doesn't have to defend that for 18 months. Klychko can probably make 2 voluntaries back to back and a unification would supersede a mandatory so 2015 may be all business.
Jennings then Fury/Chisora could happen in the first half of 2015 so long as the challengers step up.
Yes Wlad's manager has just revealed his options. He said Wlad will return to the ring in March or April. The leading candidates are Bryant Jennings and the winner of Stiverne/Wilder. Those are there first choices in Germany. Followed by Chisora/Fury and they may be willing to go to England for that match. After all that they may be open to Briggs Boente said
That all sounds ideal except the last part. If Briggs has a heart attack on account of all his roid use or gets shot in the face via a loanshark's goon or baby daddy drama (since my guess is his financial desperation stems from gambling or child support issues) he won't be missed by me. Guy is one step away from giving head for coins.
