Bernard Hopkins v Jermain Taylor I (middleweight title)

    Round 1: 10-9 Taylor
    Round 2: 10-9 Taylor
    Round 3: 10-9 Taylor
    Round 4: 10-10 Even
    Round 5: 10-9 Hopkins
    Round 6: 10-9 Taylor
    Round 7: 10-9 Taylor
    Round 8: 10-9 Taylor
    Round 9: 10-9 Hopkins
    Round 10: 10-9 Hopkins
    Round 11: 10-9 Hopkins
    Round 12: 10-9 Hopkins

Total: 115-114 Taylor (actual scorecards: 116-112 for Hopkins and 2 scores of 115-113 both for Taylor by a split decision)

Like most here surmised, Hopkins waited too long to really get into the fight. Moreover, he never gelled with a very active energetic fighter. Hopkins liked to slow a fight down to a crawl, but when a fighter made him work he was taken out of his wheelhouse.

Never watched that one but I'm down always love watching Toney fights as for suggestions:
Ken Norton vs Muhammad Ali 2 want to see how others scored it I've always thought Norton won but want to see how the people who gave it to Ali scored it
Toney vs Griffin 1 or 2 another close fight and pretty good series of close fights
Speaking of Toney Toney vs McCallum 1 or 2 great tactical fights that were both close curious how others scored it
Gonzalez vs Estrada 2 classic fight one of the best fights I ever saw
Usyk vs Bredis great cruiserweight fight
Holmes vs Norton or vs Williams another close fight curious how others scored it
I'm sure there are way more but those are the ones that spring to my mind you can pick whichever ones you want to watch

Bernard Hopkins v Jermain Taylor I (middleweight title)

Round 1: 10-9 Taylor - Slow start by both Taylor busier.
Round 2: 10-9 Taylor - Hopkins still not busy enough, close round tho with not much going on.
Round 3: 10-9 Hopkins - Hopkins wakes up and controls the round with a good right hand and excellent ring generalship.
Round 4: 10-10 Hopkins - Hopkins making Taylor miss badly at times and gets a touch more done in close.
Round 5: 10-9 Hopkins - Hopkins clear with some good right hands.
Round 6: 10-9 Taylor - Taylor clear, far busier as Hopkins does very little.
Round 7: 10-9 Taylor - Taylor's activity and jabbing offsets Hopkins booming right hand.
Round 8: 10-9 Taylor - Taylor in a close one.
Round 9: 10-9 Hopkins - Hopkins lands the better punches and oozes a bit more pressure on. Taylor's corner knows it s close.
Round 10: 10-9 Hopkins - Big round for Hopkins who throws caution to the wind and belts him with some big right hands.
Round 11: 10-9 Hopkins - Hopkins coming on like a champ. He's dominating at this point and Taylor has no answer.
Round 12: 10-9 Hopkins - Hopkins has clearly won the last 4 rounds of the fight after a slow start.

    115-113 Hopkins.

Interesting card. The third and fourth round were close and i gave them both to Taylor but i can see a case for an even round too even though the judges are highly discouraged from scoring an even round.

Agreed on the last four rounds though. Pretty clear for Hopkins.

Overall, i think the poll split is close to 50-50. And i think it reflects accurately how close this fight was.

Cool. Thanks everyone. Good fight and seems like Taylor has a slight edge in the polls but only by a couple of votes. This fight really exemplifies why boxing scoring is unlike scoring for most other sports - there is room for subjectivity.

Next up will be Toney-Tiberi. I will post a seperate thread for it in 2-3 days and give everyone a week to watch the fight.

Thanks again to all the amazing posters here for their discussion and scorecards. A pleasure as always.

Looking now my card matches rough's. I was a fraction off calling 3 or 4, 4 i think an even round. It's a close fight.
