Classic forrums take on the Haye vs Valuev fight

I actually think fraud is a bit rough on valuev. He is a limited fighter, who gives his all every fight, and is reasonably consistent and always willing to fight. He is always in reasonable condition to.

I even think i wouldnt mind seeing him fight one of the Klitchskos. At least his size and chin would give them one big test to fight.

 

If you're disputing who won the fight, you're a clown, if you're just disappointed with what Haye brought to the fight in light of everything he said, fine.

I had Valuev winning fairly easily. So there is a lot of dispute on the result.

 

I had Haye winning by one point. I thought he fought the right fight, plenty of movement,he could ,and should have thrown more shots in the second half of the fight,but Valuev ,should not in my opinion get points just for coming forward and missing with his shots.My score was 115 to 114 with the 6th even.
Haye's movement frustrated Valuev and made his jab ineffective,how many combos did Valuev land? The giant landed with occasional single shots but aggression has to be effective imo.
Most UK broadcasters ,ex fighters etc, thought Valuev had won it,due ,no doubt to the fact that he came forward all night.I don't give points for walking.
Significantly, Haye started to "chop down the beanstalk", in the last round, he wobbled the giant with a left that did not even land flush ,maybe he could have dropped him if he had attacked earlier?

Ruiz took step a side money and is promised the first shot at Haye,Haye should beat him, and ,then maybe we will see a unification fight.
Ruiz has had more than his share of bites of the cherry ,but at least he is a rated heavyweight[no8,in the Ring] , unlike Vitali's next challenger.
I think last night's result is good for heavyweight boxing.

 

I agree that the result is good for boxing. However, Ruiz's ranking in the Ring rankings is completely arbitrary. In the last two years, his resume is: a loss to Valuev and a win over an unknown journeyman. At least Kevin Johnson's win was over an undefeated prospect; he deserves to be ranked just as much as Ruiz does.

Ruiz seems to be the Tony Tucker of the 2000's, who just keeps becoming mandatory and can't be gotten rid of.

 

I had Haye winning this fight clearly 8-1-3.
That's right, I couldn't give Valuev more than one round.
He landed **** all the entire fight.

Even so, Haye's performance was a dud.

I think you have the facts mixed up.

Kevin Johnson is ring magazine rated, and very well could be better than Haye. Ruiz is not rated by Ring Magazine, and looked horrible in his last outing.

Kevin Johnson still shouldn't be rated over Ruiz in my opinion. A disputed SD loss to Valuev is better than beating a washed up Bruce Seldon and a win over an even older Jameel McCline was good enough to get Arreola ranked among the top 5, Ruiz had shut him out before that. I didn't think Ruiz looked that bad in his latest fight.

The Ring heavyweight ratings are a bit of a joke these days to be honest.

Valuev admitted his loss to Haye, saying the last round sealed it for the challenger.

I think the Ring Magazine ratings are decent. There is always debate about the 8, 9, and 10 spots. My reply was simply giving Mcvey the facts that Johnson was in fact Ring Magazine Rated. I'd have no issues with Ruiz being 8,9, or 10.

I do think Ruiz and his management have been targeting older / past their best opponents. Golota? McCline? When Ruiz beats a young ranked guy who's not over the hill, then he'll impress me.

I doubt he would have lasted with a higher workrate. The fight was at a very slow pace and Haye still pumped. Sorry, I disagree here. I was not impressed with his stamina.
I was impressed, however, with his discipline in keeping to the game plan. I thought he would throw it overboard sometime in the fight.
The fight showd that he is not the saviour of the hw division but a serious contender.

 

Why are close decisions always atomatically gift decisions or robberies. I had both Donald and Ruiz, in the first fight, winning but only by one point. You can´t call this a gift decision. It was a close fight in which the homefighter got the decision but not a gift or a robbery!

 

Not above Povetkin and Chambers I hope. Both did more at hw and both would beat Haye imo.

 

You are no doubt right ,Chris ,though Ruiz does at least have some wins over ranked opponents back in his resume .If Johnson gives a good account of himself against Vitali ,the division will perk up even more,let's be hopeful as the Ukrainian is getting to the stage when his wheels could fall off in any fight.
