Yeah, he had a few close fights which could have gone either way going for him. Because he was either the hometown fighter, the champ or even both. This is pretty common in boxing and has not much to do with a gift.

I didn´t see the Holy fight when it happened because I didn´t want to see Holy getting slaughtered, so I thought before the fight. I have seen it now and I think it was a close fight and not a robbery of Holyfield. I think that the reason why so many people think Holy won this one clearly is that firstly they were surprised how well he did, secondly they wish Holy would have won and third they know how many close decisions Valuev got and so assume he would get any decision - which actually is proven wrong by the Chagaev and Haye fights.

Personally, I had Valuev losing to Donald, the first Ruiz fight and Haye but winning the second Ruiz fight and Holyfield. Also every fight with one or two points and I can definitly see the arguments every decision going the other way. I can´t see a single gift or robbery in any of those decisions. Just close fights in which Valuev got the benefit of the doubt most of the times.

I thought Valuev won more rounds against holyfield, and I actually scored it a draw. Holyfield landed more on Valuev but Valuev landed more on Holyfield as well. The reason Holyfield landed a lot more is because he, even at 46, is a much better in fighter than Haye, plus Haye concentrated on hit and not getting hit, Holyfield tried to outland him. 2 different fights.

I don't know about that. I'm not sure if I saw Valuev hit Holyfield solidly even once.

Holyfield threw like 10 punches a round.

Actually that's pretty much exactly what it is, a gift. You give a fight to a boxer because he holds a tin belt or fights out of the country the fight is held at, that's basically giving him a gift.

I don't see how one could score the Valuev-Holyfield fight for Valuev and the Valuev-Haye fight for Haye but I guess everyone sees the fights differently. In my opinion Valuev lost clearly both times because you can't win fights without actually landing punches.

You're right. Its not going to be a pushover fight for Haye. It will be interesting to see how he approaches the Ruiz fight. His best chance may be to fight just like he did against Valueav. If he gets stuck in the jab and grab style of Ruiz, he will lose.

No, it would have been a gift it wouldn´t have been a close fight. It´s only a gift when he won where he should have lost. When a fight is close and could have gone either way it´s not a gift.

Again I explained that the term "gift decision" has a different meaning to me than probably to most other people. If you are given a close decision, especially because you're the hometown fighter or the "champ", it's a bit of a gift by the judges.

FOR ANYONE WHO REALLY SCORED THIS FIGHT FOR VALUEV, PLEASE WATCH IT AGAIN, AND IF YOU STILL THINK VALUEV SHOULD HAVE WON, MAYBE THINK ABOUT GIVING UP WATCHING BOXING :

I didn't even rate Haye's performance, but I couldn't give Valuev more than ONE clear round. I made THREE rounds even, and gave Haye EIGHT.

Someone show me where Valuev's landing more punches than Haye, or landing cleaner, stiffer punches ..... in ANY of the 12 rounds !

I thought Haye was a dud, but my score was 119-112.
Valuev did nothing. It's clear as day on film.

Watched as much as I could stomach and still had Valuev winning. Bigger fonts don't make you smarter by the way.

Even though Valuev didn't land any punches.

You should know ; I expect you've tried everything.

This is how I saw as well. Don't really know what the fuss is about.

I can understand if some wanted a more adventurous approach from Haye, especially given his big mouth pre-fight, but he did deserve the decision without a doubt.

Valuev did land punches, and let's not pretend that Haye landed THAT many clean shots, either. My scorecard was quite similar to Jim Watt's, except that i ended up having it a draw - which is a fitting conclusion to a match in which one man ran and the other didn't land much.

But again, i'm glad Haye got the verdict. I can forgive him one less than impressive performance. But he better knock out an old Ruiz if he has to face him, which, sadly, seems to be the case.

No offense to Unforgiven, but WTF fight were you watching? That was such a horrible fight, noone deserves to win, but I had it 115-113 Valuev. I noticed the sound was a big factor so I muted it after the first round.

Effective aggressiveness was the biggest part of the fight. Valuev pressed the entire fight, and while throwing sloppy power punches and a slow jab, it landed way more in a round than Hayes one or two power shots, which didnt always land cleanly every time.

If Valuev didnt land anything they woudlnt have needed enswell in the corners between rounds. Valuev's jab won the fight nothing more. You cant run from the champion and land one or two power shots and win a round in my book.

Being that Valuev was the champion and pressed 99% of the rounds I gave him the fight.

Indeed, and Valuev's aggression wasn't effective. That's what lost him the fight.

I scored it a draw as well. At least he wobbled the Giant big time in the last round. That was big and sort of justice on the whole note for me.
