Why not? It was behind a jab that was landing, and swelling up Haye's face, and it made Haye stay on his backfoot. Thats effective in my book? If it wasnt Haye should have landed more punches.
These kind of fights are really hard to score. Its really difficult to pick out highlights of each round, but there was definitely one trend that stuck out in my mind, and that was Haye was never pressing the fight, and Valuev was always sticking his jab out there and moving forward, and his landed jabs were quite a bit more than the few power shots that Haye landed in a round.
Valuev missed almost every punch. Swelling can be caused by a single punch. Watch the fight, Valuev's punches are clearly missing. If you turn the sound back on you might hear them whooshing through thin air. No offense taken. Your scorecard is so bad how can I take offense ? :good
He wasn't landing the jab, he couldn't cut off the ring, he wasn't able to tire Haye out and impose his size upon him. Basically he just stood there and flicked out a couple of punches that usually missed. I'm not saying Haye fought great but Valuev's "aggression" (if you can call it such) was about as ineffective as it gets. Haye clearly fought the fight he wanted to fight, made Valuev miss with about 90% of his punches and landed the cleaner, more effective blows. After the fight Haye looked like he wasn't even in a fight: This content is protected
Now personally I do think Haye could have made it a lot easier for himself and a much more decisive win than what he managed. I don't know if he truly broke his right hand or not but he certainly fought like he did. He fought like 46 year old Holyfield but Haye is 29 years of age.
see comments above eh hem. 119-112? You're not even in the stratosphere of anyone elses scorecard. Either way, a horrible fight, and I would never defend either fighter for winning or losing that fight.
Can't disagree with that. I did think that Haye would end up losing the decision with the way he fought, he just wasn't doing much. Basically a replica of the Holyfield-Valuev fight in my opinion.
I dont care to discuss it further, but his left eye certainly looks swollen to me. Valuev certainly didnt look like a mess either. He fought the fight he wanted to fight? He said he was going to knock him out, completely outclass him dominate him, hes not in his league etc. He certainly didnt fight the fight he told everyone he was going to fight. Does it really matter? Does that performance warrant being champion? Holyfield deserved it more than Haye and that was still a pretty **** poor fight.
Well, if I was a little bit generous to Valuev and "dont like to score even rounds" my card would be 116-112 Haye, which two of the judges produced as well as many others. But I dont indulge in "symapthy scoring", i cant just give even rounds to the guy who's behind to be kind. The thing is, I wouldn't have even been angry had Valuev been given the decision, I was actually surprised he wasn't. I was pissed off at Haye for being so crap, to be honest. Agreed. Another sad night for heavyweight boxing. This bout of crappy heavyweight "world title" matches has turned into a chronic disease, terminal even. it's not surprising we spend so much time harking on about days gone by.
Right! The hell with the heavyweights, this weekend is a real fight, and what will carry boxing through the heavyweight doldrums. Suprised noone wants to talk about the Johnson Dawson fight. Dawson is a real fighter. Good trainer, good solid skills. Thats when its entertaining to watch a 12 round fight, when there is two good technically sound boxers letting their hands go. Johnson is just a bit over the hill now but an entertaining fight.
That was all hype. He said he wanted to fight Valuev like Holyfield fought him which is pretty much exactly what he did. His trainer said Haye would fight more disciplined. The WBA title Valuev and now Haye holds is meaningless. It's like ripping off an opponent for the WBF title because "he didn't take the title away from the champion". Haye shouldn't be called the champion until he knocks out either of the Klitschko brothers. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uy97bPfK1xs[/ame] 2:50
I think you have the facts mixed up. Kevin Johnson is ring magazine rated, and very well could be better than Haye. Ruiz is not rated by Ring Magazine, and looked horrible in his last outing. This content is protected Lol, do you have a reading problem? Check the link I provided from Ring Magazine Ratings. As of Nov 8, 2009 Johnson is in the top ten. Sherlock Holmes you are not.
OK. Haye fought the fight of an absolute *****. And lost in my opinion. However, I really don't care because I hate Valuev. That said, the following fighters will kick the living **** out of him... either Klitschko, Povetkin, Eddie Chambers, an inshape Sam Peters, Boytsov and yes, Arreola. He showed little if nothing in that fight but fear of a mediocre heavyweight puncher.
I disagree with Arreola but would like to add Chagaev, (out-of-shape) Solis and in a few fights Robert Helenius who TKOed Taras Bidenko in his 10th fight on the undercard of Valuev-Haye.
I am talking about monthly ratings on which boxers are traditionally, universally judged. I have the November issue of the ring in front of me ,ditto the October issue ,Johnson is not ranked in either .Ruiz is no 8 in the Nov issue and no 9 in the October one. Johnson has NEVER been ranked in a monthly issue of the RING . Reading problem ,that's good coming from you MR Illiterate you cannot spell ,punctuate, phrase , or parse a sentence. You have the reading and writing ability of a Chimp.
