Wow thats a bold statement considering his questionable competition at heavyweight. Maybe you know something we dont?:hey
All I can say is I hope this is the last we see of Valuev. He is the epitome of what is wrong with the heavyweight division today...
Haye is a smaller fighter, the same size as many of the older ATGs. He is in reasonable condition. He fights with the low guard that is so often criticised on these boards. VAluev is a bona fide Super heavy, in fact while he is not as highly thought of as the klitchskos, or lennox lewis, it does appear as if his chin is every bit as good as any other superheavyweight. In fact it may be the best superheavyweight chin ever. It will be very interesting to see if the power of a smaller, but in shape heavy can hurt a superheavyweight. In this sense, i think that it is a very interesting fight. I would have thought that Valuev would be too good and the pawing jab will be too much for Haye to handle. But, I can definitely see also how Haye would win. It is impossible to predict with much certainty, because we dont even know if Haye is a world class heavyweight. Can he take world class shots and power and can he give the same. Monte Barrett is not really a decent test. If he is a world class talent and the answer to both those questions is yes, then i think that he will be too good for Valuev and KO him. But i dont really think that he is. I say Valuev KO9
What is everyone's basis for thinking Valuev has an iron chin? It's one thing to not go down after facing Lewis and Sanders. Vitali has an iron chin. Who has hit Valuev to make anyone think he has an iron jaw?
Valuev is what he is. Huge. Hard to hurt or wear down. Slow with moderate skills. The Jab is his best punch. Solid, but not special power. He's also aging, and looks to have regressed a bit. Valuev is not a skilled super heavy. Haye is a blown up crusier weight. Great speed, and power. Suspect chin, stamina and defense. Largely un-proven at heavyweight. I'm picking Valuev to win for two reasons. Haye can't take a good punch, and if the fight has close rounds, the judges are likely to give those rounds to Valuev. Haye could very well win on a fair score card 7-5, and end up losing a decision. My best guess is Haye will press for an action oriented type of fight. Can Haye look his fans in the eyes if he jabs and grabs? Can Haye win a close decision? I think the answer is no for both questions. Valuev will wear him down, and likely score a TKO in the mid to late rounds. It would be best for boxing if Haye wins, but at the same time, exposing a loud mouth fraud is also good for boxing. I just hope for a clear winner here without controversy. The winner needs to fight Vitali Klitschko.
He hasn't fought huge punchers but considering the amount of punishment he takes in each fight without showing any signs of being hurt, one can make the case that he has a very solid jaw. He was however stunned by John Ruiz in their second fight. Haye could do the same with a similar type of an overhand right.
I'm not too sure, JT. But I'm going to go with Haye based on his speed and power. Even though he's the physically smaller man, getting inside is something he must avoid at all costs. It's usually the smaller fighter trying to get inside against a fighter who's taller with a massive reach advantage. Valuev will be looking for a rough and physical fight. Pushing down on Haye in the clinches, walking him back, and working the uppercut at close range. It will be interesting to see if Valuev can land on Haye regularly from long range. His handspeed isn't exactly blazing but timing will be the key for him. I think he will do well at long range if he manages to seriously hurt Haye inside and tire him out over a few rounds. But Haye moves extremely well indeed and has superb reflexes. He's not exactly a stationary target, although leaving his left hand down by his waist just invites right hand leads from an opponent. He's certainly vulnerable at being caught over the first 4-6 rounds of a fight. Haye does have serious power even at heavyweight. Valuev has been in with some very good heavyweights but none who possess the power of Haye, IMO. He'll certainly get hit clean tonight, thats for sure. With his limited foot movement and oversized head, Haye will tee off on him. Monte Barrett hit the canvas often against Haye and he wasn't even being hit flush. The opinions are split on how Haye will fight tactically. Some people think he'd be best served moving around, in and out, scoring, then getting on his bike. However, thats not in Haye's DNA. Especially in Germany where fighters who are based there or from the country get gift decisions when they have been beaten fairly on points by an overseas opponent. Haye will fight a fairly cagey and controlled fight, keep his distance, look to box smart behind the jab, etc, as stated above. But he'll be looking for the knockout at the same time. Valuev will certainly be advancing and pressing the fight. Haye will pick his moments when throwing heavy weaponry. He'll try to catch Valuev as he's coming in. Haye KO.
Valuev is a strange fighter. A giant with average power, very slow of foot and hand. He has a decent jab that backs a fighter up from getting to close. Valuev also has had some less than stella moments. Nick had good fights that he looked like a strong presence but has looked bad vs guys like an ancient Holyfield and Johnny Ruiz. Haye has the better amatuer pedigree and has a good resume in all but the heavyweight division. I think Haye has to give Valuev angles and get his power shot in on the inside. Valuev has seemed to be durable with single shots but has not really had anyone tee off on him yet, ecspecially a puncher like Haye. The only trouble I see for Haye is him landing some good shots on the giant and the fight going into later rds where the 100lbs of extra weight takes its toll. Haye off his Thompson performance showed he can fizzle and if the giant somehow gets aggresive I can see him stopping a tired Haye. Valuev is not a puncher but seems to have a steady pace and decent stamina. I hate say there are intangables in this fight but there are. Can Haye execute and live up to all his hype, if he does he should stop the Giant befoe the 9th. Haye can also move and use angles and get the Decision. Valuev stays in the fight early and it goes the full route and King is the promoter. The best Valuev shows up and uses a steady jab to disfuse the early onslaught of Haye to wear him down along the ropes and batters him with less than potent fists exposing Davids weakness. My prediction is Haye fights smart give Valuev movement and sporadically gets inside with different angles to let the Giant feel his power, if the giant handles it David has to move and fight a defensive fight using his jab and right hands and he can wear the giant down or take the UD but this result will require stamina and control, 2 things David has not proven yet.
