He never defends any punches. Even against Holyfield when neither fighter threw a whole lot, he took the punches flush on the chin most of the time. The thing is that his head doesn't even move from those punches so a lot of people think he doesn't eat as many punches as he does. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cKoHYWZUMU[/ame] I do think that he'll have trouble with someone who throws barrages of punches at him instead of single shots. The only certified punchers at HW are Wlad and an ancient Tuaman. Who else can bang? I cant think of anyone, Haye can bang, if he cant take Valuev out it says more of the Giants durability than Hayes power imo and looking at Valuev's dome it does look like its built from a dinosaur skull
We agree on something! My pick is Haye by dec If he wins I will be on here in the morning gloating ,if he loses ,I will be on here eating humble pie. Well I am here for my gloat.Haven't seen the fight, the Sunday Times said it was close. Interviewed after Haye said he damaged his right hand on the top of Valuev's head in the second round ,if true ,this might explain his [according to some] rather passive performance. The Times said he rocked Valuev in the last round, which is something no one else seems to have been able to do . I think the win is good for boxing, and may bring some much needed excitement back into the heavyweight division. "For years, heavyweight boxing has been dominated by monolithic men from eastern Europe, unknown to the general public, and unwanted in Las Vegas and New York." Nick Pitt in the Times, this morning.
Its an interesting match up, against a man like Valuev with his physical advantages you can never write him off, but Haye really should win this 1, if he doesnt it'll be his chin or stamina letting him down
He never fights any punchers either. The closest was Chagaev and Ruslan fought a hit-and-run fight all night. I don't think Lennox Lewis or Wlad Klitschko would have gone down facing Valuev's opponents either. I'm not, by the way, saying Valuev hasn't fought anybody; he has fought some very good boxers, just none that are big hitters. Put Valuev in there with a top 20 heavyweight who can punch hard and you'd be able to assess his chin properly.
Hello to all folk here who remember me! This is my first post in a while, but I have some material I'll be putting out for discussion in the near future. Anyway, I just wanted to put in a pick on this thread before the match; let it be known I'm going with Haye on points (provided we don't see another pro-Valuev robbery).
I don't necessarily disagree but to me when a fighter has pretty much no defense like Valuev yet he has never truly been hurt, he has to have a pretty good chin. I'm basing it on his overall career, most of which I've seen, not just one particular fight. He can take a punch. I do think a big puncher would likely stop him because he is far too immobile and easy to hit. No way he could get away from Wladimir's punches if Wladimir decided to unload on him.
Ironicaly you were the only person who actualy picked Holyfield to beat Valuev, which most people think effectivley happened.
I can say I really want Haye to win. That's needed to put some dignity and excitement back in the division. Holyfield got robbed blind against Valuev, in a fight that also was desperately boring. To have a guy cling to a belt through questionable and outrageous decision wins he gets due to the clout of King is just too sad.
Yes, this is because I knew Holy was a very good counter puncher, still had some speed, and Valuev doesn't press the action. I think Valuev has regressed some, but I also think Haye very hyped, and used his mouth and blind patriotism instead of his fists to get this fight.
