I have to say Valuev comes across like a gentleman and a class act, I wouldnt mind seeing him pull off a KO despite wanting to see a decent new challenger
You missed nothing really. Except for this: This content is protected The only solid punch landed in the entire fight.
To be fair to Haye though, he did land more than a few shots on Valuev's head. Most of them (with the exception of the hook in the 12th round) just bounced off of Valuev's massive head though. I think Valuev getting shook up so much in the 12th had to do with attrition a bit. Valuev was getting tagged over the rounds but it wasn't super noticable because Haye's shots literally bounced off his head and he threw so little. Haye is a slugger. Sluggers against guys with granite chins are in a lot of trouble, I give him credit for being able to adapt enough and pull the win out. I think that Valuev may have been a bit of a bad matchup, especially with the stamina factor.
A concept general can't fathom. Haye is a slugger and he reverted to boxing. He did alright in that fashion. He clearly has shown legit HW power I think, and his stamina and even chin aren't as ridiculously overstated as the haters like to present. I scored the fight a draw, completely fine with the decision though. That 12th round felt like poetic justice for me with the fight. Big thing that Haye actually hurt him.
I gave it to Valuev by a fairly wide margin. He made the fight, forced the action and was in control the vast majority of the time. Haye ran, fought scared and had no output. I would scream robbery but I have a hard time really caring. Certainly Valuev has been on the receiving end of the benefit of the doubt many times.
Absolutely shocking. Valuev walked forward, and missed for 12 rounds. I'm willing to bet he landed 1 or 2 clean shots the entire fight. Haye made him miss, and countered with hard shots to the jaw and had the big 7ft monster on ***** street in the 12th. Admittedly, Haye didn't throw a lot of shots but when he did he landed, and he landed twice as many clean shots as Valuev did. How anyone can give a man who walks forward and misses, repeatedly, over and over again, the round..is beyond me. Robbery? The only thing the fans were robbed off was a competitive equation because Valuev was incapable of landing punches (...the aim of the game).
Haye won the fight clearly. Valuev was making the fight and coming forward but it counts for nothing when you're landing nothing. To say he should have won rounds based on simply walking forward is laughable. Haye wasn't exciting himself and wasn't particularly busy either but landed more and landed the more effective punches throughout the fight. He won the fight, no question. I scored the fight 116-113 for Haye. Valuev had his moments at times and won some rounds but no way did that man do enough "with his hands" to win the fight.
...I fully agree with you Robbi. It blows my mind that people score a round for someone who was walking forward and missing. It was Haye that was making those shots miss, he showed great head movement and footwork in there I thought. To go the full 12 without practically taking a shot is what this game is all about. Admittedly, he should have threw more but he claims he may have broke his hand and I have no reason to doubt him. It was about the third round on that he stopped throwing the right hand.
I scored it a draw. My brother scored it to Valuev. I think scoring it to Valuev is acceptable actually. Haye gave away the middle rounds. I feel the ending was justice. He dented the Valuev's chin which was seen as undentable. That in and of itself made me happy he won (Also the fact I rooted for him). Surprised he got a decision in Germany. Definitely no robbery. Haye did would he had to. Made Valuev look bad for the most part and landed a lot of clean shots.
Gave practically every round to Haye except for one or two in the middle. If Haye lands two or three shots, he wins the round...because Valuev seldom landed even one or two. Haye landed more, and he constantly made Valuev miss. ...That's Boxing effectively. So can I conceivably see a Valuev victory? ...Sorry Pete, no way.
Watch it again, he landed a few jabs on Haye. But you are right, most of Haye's punches were much bigger and generally much cleaner. But they were seldom. It gave an appearance of did Haye do enough. My dad felt Haye should've won. My brother only scored it 1 point for Haye. I had it a draw. I'm happy Haye won, the broken hand sort of gives me relief on things. I was watching and Valuev is so basic. Jab, jab, jab, jab, jab straight, etc. Haye needed to slip and throw that left hook. He also needed to let Valuev punch and then attack and make counters happen. Valuev can not mix offense and defense. It's offense, and then block/defense. Haye didn't figure that out. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt with his hand being hurt. By the way, I'm a fan of Haye and want to see him crack Wlad's chin. Who did you think won in the Froch vs Dirrell fight just out of curiosity. Also, didn't Jim Watt give the fight to Valuev by 2 points (Sky Sports announcer). The other guy gave it to Haye by 1 round. Was tough to score in the middle rounds.
A few jabs. :dead Exactly... Pete, exactly. Haye's good work was seldom, but Valuev's good work was even more seldom. He landed one good right hook, and that was after taking a hard solid shot himself. I hate Dirrell winning by two rounds, but I thought Haye landed more clean heavy shots on Valuev than Dirrell managed on Froch. Likewise, Jim Witt has proven to be an idiot when it comes to scoring fights for a while now. He had MAB vs Morales III a draw, for example. I can't explain why any of the guys in the booth scored it for Valuev, it blows my mind.
