I can tell I'm feeling a bit cranky this morning. I stopped myself from posting snarky responses to a couple of posts, because who really needs to see that... That said, what are some pet peeves you have that people do in the Classic Boxing Forum? What are some things that irritate you? I'll probably chime in later with a list, but for now I want to see what other folks have to say. Edit: Please don't go off on individual posters, i.e. "Everything that sweetsci posts." Maybe it's the teacher in me, but I'm thinking "Address the behavior, not the individual."
I've definitely got an obsession with heavyweights. But I totally understand where you're coming from. There are a million arguments to be made in favor of the lighter divisions & the fighters in them. But I like and mostly concentrate on the big guys.
This. We see some odd things like "Prime Eusebio Pedroza vs. Prime Chavez." That's just a silly example of one such thing. It doesn't even make sense. Prime Pedroza was a featherweight. Prime Chavez was probably a lightweight but could be argued down to 130. The two have nothing to do with each other. It's an apples and oranges comparison.
Outside of Mike and Ali, I hate heavyweights, and yeah, they're discussed way too much on classic - including Mike and Ali.
OH YES, some of the fights are bordering on the ridiculous ! some have been done to death, some are not worth the effort, also cant explain but ( given that I am English ) hate any of these that includes Bruno.....
Dislike the notion that size is everything. When I used to spar frequently the hardest I was ever hit was by a 205 pound guy. Instead of arguing styles people get sucked into the size argument completely ignoring the history of boxing.
The Duran worship. The "Leonard never immediately rematched any opponent right away except when it benefited him therefore those victories are discounted" chestnut. The "49-0; 'Nuff said" crowd. Are you willing to give the same credit to Mayweather for it? Probably not.
When terms that that only the fancy understand, as they make no sense in a non boxing environment, are stretched even further.
You mean over 185 lbs, right? Because below 185, I guess you feel that size is quite a big deal. Didn't come to think of one particular pet peeve when I entered the thread, but the quoted post solved it for me. Those that sound like it's ignorant to believe that size matters, the belief of common casuals and "modernistas", when they fervently believe it does right up to the weight of their idol. That and the worst Duran fans and all their excuses. In their universe No Mas actually reflects badly on Leonard. It just can't get more bizarre than that.
