While I agree it is possible to grow in height, Being super heavy to me is like wearing cement shoes, using a term used by the mobsters of the past, carrying too much weight. But come on, everyone growing over 7 feet tall, they must have had some help from a steroid filled syringe. Unless their parents ate Organic foods since birth, let's be honest. And many were from a nation where that could have happened.

Don't let them get you down, scar. You're invariably well-informed and make good points. It would be a shame if we lost you because of a few who would be better limiting their limited views to youtube where they're free to spend hours calling each other the C word. Happy new year and be sure to keep on keeping on. The forum is all the better for it.

Thank you for proving my point. Anyway shooting Reagan would have made him a hero.

Faking a detached retina isn't exactly the stuff legends are made of. The only think she had detached was a desire to share a ring with Tommy Hearns again.

See, you sound like redrooster here. An otherwise decent poster so twisted with hatred for a fighter that all logic and assumption from the rest of us that we can converse rationally with you goes right out the window. That's a shame.

the narrative that certain fighters can not be beaten (usually old time fighters with no film, or of course as always anything with Cassius Clay).

aside from being a ridiculous narrative, what is the point of point of matching them in mythical H2H fantasy fights if it's already such a foregone conclusion who would win.?

seems a lot of posters just want to come on her to see who can hug nuts the hardest

Agree with what you said - but again you show your contempt & obsession with Ali.

The only things that bother me are the guys who have created their whole universe around a given (or 2-3) heavyweights, their entire boxing philosophy designed to bolster a given heavy or heavies. There are 8 or 9 guys who over the last 15 years on this forum fit this description. It's hard to be specific without running down individuals (which as the OP states isn't good) but as a crude example, height.

If the poster's fetish is very tall, all discussions will be through the prism of height. "Such and such never beat a fighter that tall who could box". Experts at the differentials added to reach by various heights and on the mechanics of the difficult of "punching up."

Similarly, if their fighter is short, they are expert at describing boxers "getting inside the reach" and explaining how shortness is an advantage. And I don't just mean when describing their favourite fighter - that's the point - I mean describing everyone. If there is a fantasy fight tossed up between a tall fighter and a short fighter they'll be on that explaining why the tall/short fighter should be favoured.

The reason this is especially dangerous is what they say can often make sense on a case by case basis. These guys can demonstrate expertise in the advantage the modern has over the old, the fast over the slow, the technically sure over the ungainly - or the exact opposite, depending upon their hero's type. So they can be persuasive. In fact, they can only ever make one choice. They never think about it - they don't have to. All these guys do is work on systems that support their fighter.

It's pretty incredible stuff to witness and you have to be paying attention to get it. Only hardcore forum guys would ever see it and even then it's over a significant period of time.

Thanks, Eddie. I'm cool, though. I just have to learn to engage when I need to rather than wade in sometimes.

You are a very talented poster, do not pay attention to the few that seem to object to your post. Everyone is entitled to their opinions without using profanity directed at others. In my day, using those words would have resulted in a spanking with the belt as a child, or a mouthful of soap. Keep om posting, we are better with you posting. We all need to respect one another. I have often thought of leaving but no one is good enough to make me leave, especially those that hide behind a computer. Those in charge should be doing their jobs and looking out for those who try to bully others instead of persecuting those that defend themselves.

What I most dislike is what is the psycho-drama that betrays deep insecurity immaturity + most destructive to the forum, good debate, & mutual respect: the verbal abuse, personal attacks, hatred & contempt from a safe, anonymous distance.

But this place has improved significantly in this regard!
