Jones is 39 but remember Calzage is 36. Still other than the first Joe dominated Jones and stuck his head out and showboated classic(Jones,Ali,Sweet Pea,Ray Leonard) It was crazy that he was doing what Roy would have done to him had the shoe been on the other foot. Joe would have spelled trouble for Roy even if both had been prime. I am not sure who would have won but Joe is a great adapter and adjuster. Sorry there is critisism for Joe for showboating there was hardly a whisper when Hopkins did that to Pavlik a few weeks ago. Retire now Joe, go out on top and Undefeated...The pride of Wales and Italian Dragon 46-0 32 Ko's

True. But watching an exciting fight will always be preferable to watching a dull one. Then again, you're German. :hi:

Joe was a bit classless and RayLeonardesque but this was Jones getting a taste of him own (roid filled) medicine. Here's a bloke that used to put one hand behind his back just to show a glorified tomato can how superior he was to him. Now the sock's on the other foot and he doesn't like the smell. Remember the Archie Moore quote when Clay was standing above him making a **** of him when he was on the deck, it was in the region of "never take the **** out of anyone son, one day it might be you" or words to that effect. :good

Cheers mate. Now all's Joe has to do is get out the game before some young buck makes a fool out of him. :hey

It won't be Chad "Who?" Dawson though- he'll make a clown of him too. If the fight does come off, i'll be taking bets how many minutes Dawson wins, never mind rounds- my guess is 'three'. One in the first, eighth and last.

My dad stayed up and watched the fight and summed it up with "it was like a fight staged out a Rocky movie" which was also what callers were saying on BBC five live radio.

Jones used to put on a show for the crowd, he never clowned and tortured a finished fighter who offered nothing up, and he generally carried certain fighters as well. He was never classless in the ring. I don't think Joe is classless, I just don't like the way he performed toward the latter half of that fight against a finished fighter, though it was fair game in the first half.

I'd like him to have one more fight in Wales or Wembley (or even Manchester) vs Who Dawson or Mary Hopkins- and then pack it in. Or even Froch? :hey

What? You don't think a fighter putting his hand behind his back isn't humiliating to his overmatched opponent? I can barely think of anything worse.

My dad said Hopkins-De La Hoya was like "Mary Poppins On Ice", so my guess is that Robbie's dad enjoyed it. :good

aw poor roy, the little lamb. he's always been so well behaved in his career ( the steroids were a slip up, some older boys made him do it ), and the dirty slapping welshman with the padded career made him look a bit silly. even counting 8 million dollars wont help roy get over this one, dirty little welshman

Sure it's humiliating, but so is what a guy like Whitaker did to Greg Haugen, despite being all business in the ring that night. It's not the same as torturing a finished fighter and prolonging a heavy beating. Roy used to carry the overmatched fighters he fought to put on a show for the crowd before the finish, he rarely put on a sustained beating without going for the finish, and never clown and tortured the way Calzaghe did, especially to a fighter in a position like Roy was in. Against shot fighters like McCallum, Roy was all business and generally carried him. Against youngsters with little chance like Grant, Jones carried him, putting on a show in the process, but taking it easy and not prolonging any beating. Against a guy like Brannon, Jones called for the ref to stop the fight out of pity for Brannon, and not in an arrogant way.

Jones was a show-boater, don't get me wrong, but nothing he ever did was on par with what Calzaghe was doing last night. That was straight up sadistic and the epitome of douche-dome.
