    Perfectly put bro..I agree 100%
Dissapointing is exactly that, people will base his Vs. ATG status on what they think he could have been or what he was capable of doing rather than what he actually did.

Like saying "I could have got straight A's all thru school if I wanted to, but I choose to ditch and hang out with my friends instead".

    I'm not Sanchezfan bro...
But I also have Mayweather as better than Jones Jr.
I always had Jones jr. as sort of "Pumped Up" ATG wise aswell.
(He also had a tendency to avoid the big fight's like Floyd, they pretty much shot themself in the foot ATG wise IMO, sometimes being UNDEFEATED don't mean as much as competition)

Roy has defo began to understand this now...
he know's he had the chance to be the #1, but his
lack of fighting everyone is what hurt him. only now does he want
the Joe C's & Bernard II, Toney II, Julian Jackson's, G-man ect...
(But those guys ain't there for him anymore)

Really? You think that? Mayweather has alot of very good wins, but he doesn't really have anything that matches James Toney and Bernard Hopkins. Those are both exceptional wins. But I won't argue if you think Mayweather's is better, perfectly understandable and I'm swaying that way a bit as well.

Interesting, bc to me Bernard and Toney are far better than Floyd's two best wins. And h2h, I also favor RJJ.

..........Mayweather's competition eclipses Jones' in my mind at least because of the consistently good competition.

For every Toney or Hopkins, Jones fought a lot of very subpar competition. By design. He was far more careful about whom he fought.

Both of those wins never sat well with either guy...
True Jones put on a boxing clinic against them it's just that the cautious Jones that fought against a Toney/Hopkins was not the same machine that would destory a Virgil Hill or Montell G. ect..

IMO, Mayweather actually took more chances in the ring than Roy, I know it sounds like blasphamy to say it but it's kinda true.

............Better technically? Virtual tossup, but I lean toward Mayweather. Unlike Jones, he had the ability to fight in the pocket and not take much punishment, something that Jones never showed.

Thats true, apart from maybe Bruseles and Sosa his competition has been top notch the whole way through. Corrales and Hatton were both P4P ranked fighters when he beat them and he didn't just beat them, he dominated them and knocked them both out. In my mind he also established himself as the best Super-featherweight ever. He looked brilliant there and his record is top notch also.

As for who was better technically, its only speculation but I don't think Mayweather would have had such a spectacular downfall like Jones. He is much more technically sound and his defense does not rely just on reflexes and athleticism (ahhh Stonehands has got to me). And as you said he can fight up close and in the pocket as he has proven numerous times.

I don't think Mayweathers comp has been consistently good.

There have been large amounts of average\barely above average fighters.

The good has been the exceptions, though it's not entirely mayweathers fault.

..........Guess we'll have to disagree there. Floyd's resume is littered with top names since he beat Hernandez.

Floyd's resume has gradually been underwhelming as he has progressed in weight IMHO.

I have a difficult time rating him with the likes of Napoles (b/c of the poster "Mantequilla", his name immediately popped up) & the like. Especially now-his career in a ATG manner seems VERY incomplete to the pallet.

More power to him if he stays retired though-hope he has been watching the recent Holyfield news, & uses his head.

    My thoughts exactly.

And quite personally, I don't rate him that high h2h as some others do.

Against the two best fighters he fought - and they really weren't all that good mind you, a 34 year old DLH and a prime Castillo - he struggled mightily.

I really question his ability to beat great pressure fighters and great fighters with sufficiently quick hands to catch him.

Regarding the Jones-Mayweather debate, let's not forget that Jones fought two fighters better at that stage than anyone Mayweather has fought in his career (I speak of TOney and Hopkins, and that's right I don't really buy that Hopkins was THAT green, at that stage, i still consider him better than an old DLH or a prime Castillo), and both times, Jones had a stroll in the park with them.

Struggled mightily? He clearly beat De La Hoya (I know on your card DLH won but you are in the very small minority) and although he did struggle with Castillo he beat him more decisevly in the rematch, proving he was better. Wether you believe it or not there is the possible reasons as to why he struggled in the first fight such as the shoulder issue and broken ribs (which yes Castillo inflicted). Mayweather hasn't before or since just stopped throwing punches in the middle rounds and what not like he did against Castillo.

Mayweather beat Castilo with one hand during their first fight. Due to an injured arm. BEAT him. Anyone care to argue with the decision? Watch the first 5 rounds and you'll be very hard pushed to give Castilo one of them.
