...must admit the first 100 or so times I saw Rocky I, when Stallone runs up the stairs of the Philly library and throws his arms up in triumph, it brought a lump in my throat.

How the money talked when Sturm "lost" to a fat Oscar de la Hoya to set up the Hopkins vs. de la Hoya fight.

That was awful. I still feel sorry for Sturm. What could ever be done to make up for that. Being that big of an underdog, pull off the upset, get robbed, and have hardly anyone stand up for you.

    I'll pay that one.

I find the passing of the torch a bit sad at times. Marciano - Louis, Ali - Holmes, Holmes - Tyson. For the longest time i didn't like Holmes much personally yet still found myself cheering during his short dance and jab vs Tyson. Tho i thought it impossible (A Holmes win) i was cheering for a Holmes win. I felt a bit for SRL when Norris comprehensively battered his shell. I felt sorry for Donny Lalonde vs Leonard for various reasons. Felt immensely sorry for the gentleman that was Alexis Arguello when he was badly battered at the end of Pryor 1. Felt sorry for Page and Dokes getting ko'ed heavily vs Rudduck, two greatly talented fighters who had many years earlier squandered things. Felt terrible for Frank Bruno at the end of his vain but valiant effort vs a chubby Witherspoon. Arguello's immediate concern for his fallen rivals was always moving. Meldrick Taylor's gut wrenching but totally fair loss to Chavez after being oh so close. I wouldn't say the tears ever flowed, but some moving moments for sure.

I felt gutted when De La Hoya lost to Trinidad. A very empty feeling, as if a relative had died. No tears of course, but I felt down and extremely pisssed off.

Right before Oscar lost to Felix, I honestly wanted him to lose so he would know what it felt like to lose a fight you had really won.

I didn't like how I felt when that became a reality.

I still hate Holmes, but hated to see him lose to Tyson. Holmes was the better fighter in his prime. Much like you, I still appreciated Holmes doing a dance and jab that would've destroyed Tyson prime vs Prime.

Didn't bring a tear to my eye, but seeing Larry getting battered like he did, came awfully close. Probably served to remind me that I liked him as a champion, and hated his personality.

I often run into that with Ali as well :good:lol:

..pontiuos....the last thing I want to do is start a Marciano discussion, but his wins brouught tears to my eyes when he beat my favorite fighters, and I pondered what they would have done to him had he fought them in their prime. Now I have always said that Marciano was as courageous a fighter as i've seen and he had the strength of a rhinosceros, though without the grace, and....well..let us leave it at that.
