No, boxing is about hitting the opponent while trying to avoid getting hit back.

-Washington didn't block punches with his face like Joyce
-Washington spent a lot of the fight on the back foot or against the ropes. Your memory is off. He wasn't walking Wilder down. In fact on several occasions Washington was on the back foot and using lateral movement while Wilder was the aggressor.
-The scorecard was even on 2 cards at the time of the KO. Wilder landed plenty of shots and he wouldn't have any trouble at all landing on Joyce.

So what’s your point ? That age is irrelevant ?

Exactly. And both get more difficult with age

I couldn't say I was particularly enthralled by this bout.

Joyce looked awful. Zhang did what Zhang does and looked 'brilliant' because Joyce was awful.

Fast hands. Those sharp straight lefts came pretty quickly.

They're both in their late thirties. Not sure what your point is.

Age is zero percent of why Joyce was getting nailed last night though.

    There isn't one, really.

This was an unranked opponent defeating a highly ranked contender in what is increasingly an unconvincing division. Probably less significant than Ginjiro Shigeoka's KO of Mark Cuarto earlier today.

Where does Zhang go into the rankinga following this you think?
And how far down does Joyce get bumped?

For me, I think Zhang has a great case for number three, though I bet he ends up lower than that for TBRB.

Joyce is still top ten TBRB's problem is Wallin is ranked, can't see how he would be below Wallin. Myself, i'd have him just above Whyte.

So a hyped up old "Contender" with a little over a dozen fights under his belts gets by clubfighter Dubious who beat exactly nobody before, then gets by the featherfisted tame Samoan who could not even get by Shyte and went life and death with another clubfighter named Chisora who never ever won a meaningful fight..................talking about Brit hype jobs.................said "Juggernaut" who made Grandpa Foreman look fast and never ever heard of moving your head or god forbid evade a shot faces another stone old fat unranked nobody whose claim to fame is at best drawing vs the "Balkan Hope" who again beat nobody of note despite being a Pro forever............

All of the above are poor beyond poor ................Wilder face plants every single one of them, Fury wins every time stopping at least two out of the three and Usyk white washes them 120-108.......

In the 80's you had drugs and no discipline but at least they could fight and were skilled......

Age has everything to do with it explaining why many of these highly touted prospects are losing to fighter’s of Zhang’s caliber, regardless of weather or not the lesser challengers are of the same age or not. Spending too much time in the amateurs and not turning pro until a later age is lowering the quality of the product.

Again, you aren't making sense. Zhang has a silver medal from the Olympics, and two bronze medals in the World Championships. He gave Hrgovic hell and a lot of people thought he won. Other than that, he's undefeated. So what is the issue with his calber?

And Joyce was still in the f8ght when it got stopped.

Maybe Zhang is better than people thought and it's not a case of modernists vastly overrating Joyce. It's not inconceivable he could still beat many former champions despite losing to Zhang.

He seemed to still be in the fight when it was stopped and had won the prior round

Anyway I would hazard to guess his abilities might not translate well against huge punchers due to lack of defense but he's still dangerous against smaller guys without huge power.

Name one quality opponent ( besides Joyce ) who zhang has beaten. Name an impressive performance.
