I don't think I'd tell him anything that Manny isn't already in camp. Wlad has blocks that are preventing him from applying what he is practicing. Off the top of my head, advice would look like this: * Use the pawing jab only sparingly and when you do make it a dumb-dumb jab that sets up something worse, be it a hook, a right cross or a harder jab on its heels. * More often, shoot that jab like you mean it and then throw the right and finish on your left with either a cross or a jab. It won't only make you more exciting, it will prove safer than what you're doing if you ever meet someone who has even watched Dempsey-Willard. At times, shoot the jab and step in with it to deliver a hard right cross. You land that, the fights over and there'll be no need to worry about anything except tripping over the bump on the mat that was your opponent. * if your man is tough to hit on the head, begin the above by jabbing his chest. Anywhere you hit anyone, they're gonna move. When he's off balance, step in with straight shots, finishing on your left. * Back up only to create distance to deliver hard shots. Stop the scurrying -most of it is wasted movement and you look foolish. Step back one or two steps and keep in mind that you want to nail him coming in, and given that, there is no need to scurry away. The best remedy for not getting hit is to force the other man to pay when he opens up. Here's a new proverb: "Scurrying giants encourage midgets." * Step off to a side to create an angle when he rushes that can be used to deliver your shots with less risk. Stepping back and to the right for a left hook. Step back and to the left for a lead right. * Your legs are too wide. You're detracting from your own height advantage and it's affecting your mobility. * Learn to shorten shots and fight inside. Right now, the guy breaks your single line of distance (outside) and your only answer is to panic and scurry or panic and hold/lean. There are three punching ranges -be smart and learn more than one. Luckily, your opponents are too dumb to notice anything to exploit, so you need not change a thing to enjoy continued success... even if the sport is suffering needlessly. ....... In addition to that kind of advice, I'd drill him to death. He has to respond to attacks in a way that is second nature and to do that, he has to be disallowed from thinking so much. His first nature is to disengage from hostilities.
I think Wlad would benefit a lot from watching two fighters. Sonny Liston would be a great fit for him in terms of strategy. As a big man with size and reach advantages he's a fantastic blueprint for how to break down and destroy any smaller man. I would hope that doing so would make him more generous about how he used his power punches as well. Ezzard Charles would also be a fantastic blueprint. Perhaps moreso than any fighter i've ever seen he has mastery over the 1, 2, and 3 and how to set them up. Those are also Wlad's best punches. The way Ezzard uses these basic punches sparingly in a fight is pretty much unrivaled for effectiveness. Wlad has pretty damn good punches as far as sheer quality goes. They have size, reach, and big pop and he uses them well. But he could be a little more fluid. Pick his shots better.
You are addressing half my points. If you saw the argument in toto, you'd spare me from having to regurgitate what I've already said. It seems that you are highly impressed with Klitschko. I'm not. But that's just our respective opinions. The fact is, the sports world isn't impressed with him either because everyone seems to be missing his wondrous feats. I can't remember another era when the title defenses of the Heavyweight Champion of the World were practically ignored.
In regards to the match-up, I would take Louis. He has real handspeed in both punch speed and combo speed. Haye supposedly had these assets because of his "athleticism", whatever the **** that means. The first combo Louis lands might be the last, tho I do think the sturdiness of Wlad is underrated. Wlad fights an attrition style. Unless he gets Louis on the end of his jab like a yo-yo, he will taste some brutal power... and not just one punch at a time. And Louis would find a way around that jab often enough before it takes it's toll.
Which Baer are you referring too, both Buddy and Max had pretty poor jabs from memory and they liked to give up their height. Ruiz certainly is a much better jabber, if he does 1 thing well it's throwing a good jab Carnera is a much better comparison because I think he's actually a better outfighter and jabber than each Baer. As an in fighter pretty poor and Wlad's much better inside than him aswell as being better outside I agree Wlad's footwork isn't fast or intricate, yes it is textbook and yes it is effective As for countering Wlad - that's not a gameplan to beat him alone. You need to command the centre of the ring or punch him back, jab with him to take away his jab, slip inside and step to the left to make him fight - he can fight but like Stoney says he mentally doesn't want to and you can break him there Believe me I'd be cheering for Louis, I give him a good chance, I also give Wlad a good chance in a 50-50 fight
The Klits hadn't even seen Ray Robinson until a few years ago Swarmy, apparently they thought he looked really good though Don't think they're going to be students of the game
Haye was mobile int he fight. I would not put a lot of stock int he alleged toe injury that happened 3 weeks ago. When Haye did land, his punches were not enough to put Wlad in jeopardy. While Louis hit harder than Haye, he had even less reach, and less footwork.
Max. He had some very good boxing skills shown on occasion, he was just a lazy inconsistent ****. I'd say Wlad and Carnera are equally mediocre, uninspiring infighters. Of course Wlad can't be beat just by countering. He needs to be beat down, hammered into the ground mentally and physically. I'd say it's 70-30 Louis-Wlad, but i'm Louis Hooooooook. smh, that's a shame...
Well we'll have to disagree on the odds I think we'd agree Louis needs to take away the jab though either by slipping, jabbing with it, or maybe a feint step followed by a counter as Wlad moves forward WTF does SMH mean, I keep seeing girls put that on facebook, I feel like a guy I knew 10years ago who didn't know what a : ) was
true, but i feel wlad is clearly better than all the other super heavys that louis fought. louis also isn't the most elusive fighter, nor does he take the best shot. with all this said, you can say louis was the greatest fighter ever and get no argument from me.
Klitschko packs stadiums and attracts huge TV viewing figures. There's a whole world outside of America - (no, I'm not kidding, there really is). He's certainly not being ignored. I wouldn't say "I'm highly impressed" with Klitschko at all. His style leaves a lot to be desired from the aesthetic perspective, and he tends to do enough to clearly win but not enough to thrill an audience and he fails to demonstrate the variety of tools and approach to the job at hand. But there comes a point where a world champion fighter is so dominant, so consistent, against a field of the world's contenders, that you have to just put your hands up and say this guy must be pretty damn good. And you have to throw away your prejudices about what makes a superb fighter and try to understand what the fighter in question IS doing, not dwell on what your prejudices say he should be doing or what other great champions did. Statements to the effect of "He's just big, rather than skilled", "his opponents are either too fat or too dumb, or both" ...... are very probably the wrong answers, IMO. More likely, he's mastered his own style to such an acute degree that when decent fighters step in the ring with him they are outclassed in spite of their plans to counter his "flaws". In other words, he has immense skill at imposing and applying his game plan on the fight.
So they just didn't do their homework? Explanations like this don't seem very plausible to me. I agree that you need to have a gameplan and the faith that you can win. But you still need the right skills, the right physical and mental abilities as well to beat Wlad. It is not that difficult to figure out what you need to beat Wlad. But there is a huge gap between knowing and doing.
