Classic Posters(concerning Pac vs Margo)

Because theres no comparison to the level of boxing skills that Mayweather has compared to guys like Clottey or Margarito, no matter how big they are.

Ducking and fighting at catchweights has nothing to do with the fact that Mayweather is leagues above guys like Clottey and Margarito.

 

Well I have to admit Ive never been sold on him because he does make a lot of mistakes, but noone has been able to expose them yet except maybe Marquez, but I think Pac has improved significantly since those fights as well.
I dont see him as a Gatti level fighter, although hes just as exciting, and yes his footwork and angle punching are excellent, but I think the Mayweather fight will do a lot for his legacy and the way a lot of boxing purists view him because of some of the vulnerabilites he shows as well as those Marquez fights. I hope it comes off. Even though it will be a technical fight, its going to be a great win for either fighter.

What kind of mistakes ?? Balance ?

 

His head movement and defense overall could be much much better. He makes up for it with incredible athleticism, and iron beard, and a great heart but he gets nailed with right crosses way too often, and he's always been susceptible to body punching. His inside game aint too great either, and like someone else said in this thread, off the backfoot he's not a fantastic fighter.

At middle range, against a fighter who can't compete with his speed he's ****ing unstoppable though.

 

Would you have preferred it if Pac had run the twelve rounds, pecked away and Margarito had landed less than 100 punches? Would that improve his 'boxing ability' somehow. I think that a prime match up at 135 or 140 would be a close affair but I honestly feel Pac takes it, I also feel he could beat Mosley at 135. The guys defence has never been great and I feel it would take a truly superb puncher such as Hearns, Robinson or Leonard to knock him out at this stage.

I definitely get the feeling that you don't think much of Pac at welter, but just just out of interest how would you see a fight between him and Palomino going?

 

No not so much balance of foot, because his footwork is pretty good, but hes pretty easy to hit, and really when you think about it, the last three guys that he fought were right in front of him for him to hit, and they all had a little success in certain ways but are not as consistent as Mayweather.

A guy like Mayweather who is elusive, has a good jab, uses his distance really well, is going to exploit these kind of things and keep Pac off punching balance because hes not going to be right in front of him. Even Amir Kahn was giving Manny a little trouble with his movement and speed.
If he fights Mayweather its going to look nothing like his last three fights. Manny's going to be aggressive against a counterpuncher not a stationary punching bag, and that makes for a completely different fight.

I agree, hence the Pac pushing the envelope and being more consistent at those higher weights.

I think Williams is more beatable than Martinez. He's really tall, got range, and a high work-rate so it might be tough. I mean Pac could have some trouble hitting Williams cleanly. But Williams didn't look all that great against Cintron. If he beats Martinez, he will have to be good. I think it's an easier fight than against Martinez, though. I don't see Pac fighting these really big guys though, that might just be too much.

If they didn't watch the first Morales fight and the second JMM fight, I guess they'd have realised that by now. Pity for the fools that have seen those fights.

How is Chavez tailor made for Pac? Because he beat come forward fighters with borderline ******ation as far as skill sets go like Hatton and Margo?

Because he flogged the dead donkey known as DLH?

Because he beat someone like Barrera who doesn't have the chin, strength or defense of Chavez?

Saldivar is similar to Chavez in many respects although not as strong and maybe he is a bit more open to punches. But I still think he has a better chin and defense than Barrera. Stamina too. Better body puncher as well.

I think Nelson is versatile enough to outbox Pac and strong enough to push him onto the back foot and take him out of his comfort zone as the case need be.

Well, Pac has been hurt by lesser guys than Arguello and with Pac's leaky defense I still don't favour him to take Arguello's shots for a whole fight.

Other than skills and natural size advantages.

Well, Morales did beat him once, so maybe they would with good reason.

Amazing how overrated this guy is becoming.....

 

Why couldn't he have stayed in range and not get hit as much? I know he was facing El radar Margarito and all, but a bit more defense wouldn't have gone astray.

Guys like JMM were discouraging him at 130, I don't think he turned into superman 5 pounds north.

It would be close I think. Palomino probably lacks the killer instinct to take advantage of the many holes he'd find and Pac's work rate will keep him in it.

 

I wonder who's more over-rated: Pacquiao, or Napoles with that leaky defence of his.

 

Pacman is a very, very aggressive fighter. Forward fighting offensive minded boxers are always going to get hit, its a question of minimizing that punishment while still being effective offensively.

 

I might catch a lot of abuse for saying this, but I honestly think at least a third of the shots that Pac takes, he does so voluntarily, to coax you in. There was a point shortly after he nailed Margarito with the body shot that really hurt him in, I think, Round 4, where he turned and let Margarito walk him down before walking him on to another punishing shot to the got.

I also believe that another third of those shots that he takes, which come (vs. Margarito, for example) from brawling, come from Pacquiao putting himself in a position where he might be hit (ie. on the ropes), which is a position that if he wanted to, he could easily avoid. The thing is though, I believe he puts himself in these positions to give the crowd a show, and to prove that he is just as tough as you are.

If he wanted, I honestly don't think he would be hit as much as he is.
