So for Classic posters i'm going to ask you to post up your favourite fighters in three different categories, RETIRED, NO OR LIMITED FOOTAGE and ACTIVE.

They're pretty self explanatory, list up to ten fighters that you love most that box in three different categories.

RETIRED means fighters who are not currently active for whom you personally have watched two or more complete fights on film - or something approaching this.

NO OR LIMITED FOOTAGE is a list of fighters that you love for which there are fewer than two complete fights on film.

ACTIVE means up to ten fighters fighting right now.

You don't have to do all categories, and you don't have to do ten fighters in each category, list three, five, ten, whatever you like.

I'll go first in post 2 and you get an idea what it is i'm after, and then we'll see what the forum comes up with.

    Retired(in no particular order):
    Muhammad Ali
    Tommy Hearns
    Sandy Saddler
    Sonny Liston
    George Foreman
    Wilfredo Gomez
    Joe Frazier
    Joe Louis
    Roberto Duran

Don't think I'll do top ten lists for the other categories, but for limited/no footage, my favourite's are Ketchel and Burley, and for modern, it's Marquez, Wlad, Hopkins, and Froch.

    Retired:

    Joe Louis - the BEST
Camacho, beautiful to watch, I always like the stylish boxers,
    Hearns - boxer/puncher, vulnerable, exciting
Tyson - No Explanation needed, 'might' be the best HW ever.
Haugen - great example of literally hundreds & hundreds of top excellent & very good Pro's.
Carbajal - like camcho, a very good boxing technician and pleasure to watch.

    Limited or no footage:

    Canzoneri,
    Lloyd Marshall (the first RJJ),
    Jock McAvoy,
    Ernie Roderick - beautiful boxer,
Scotlands Jim Brady always intrigued me,
Bert Gilroy, might well be Boxing's Most Cheated fighter,
the French gypsy Theo Medina, looked great,
Robert Villemain, whom I call "the Proof Fighter..."
Len Harvey, humble gentleman - greatest example of what a TOP Athlete SHOULD be like, 'Probably' Britain's Greatest Ever boxer and should've got a world title.

Modern - Don't follow boxing in great depth .

but like Cotto, Froch, AA and GGG is worth watching the outcome.

I'll be honest, I find it a wee bit silly to have a 'favorite' of whom there is no footage. (limited is a different story, unless we're talking like only footage of shadowboxing or skipping rope or sparring a kangaroo - even 1 near complete filmed bout, if at or near championship level, can probably be enough to determine liking someone, although dubbing them a fave on so little still does feel like a stretch...)

I suppose they can be akin to a favorite literary character or something, but without seeing them how can you know you'd enjoy watching them? (no matter how vivid contemporary descriptions of their style might be)

What if footage of said guy was unearthed and upon watching it, you're like "Egad, this is ****"? :yep

The forum now expects to see the first case of self-banning since Manny stopped drinking.
