Oh man!! What a gem this one was...Speech folded like a lawn chair, didn't he? For all my talk of my love for 15 round defensive/strategic chess matches, I love these explosive blow outs too!

I really liked Sean...he'd say things like..."you have to introduce your opponent to the canvas, even if you shove him to the deck...get him used to being down there...get him to start liking it"...stuff like that lol.

I like O'Grady quite a bit as well, though I can't say I was lucky enough to of been a fight fan when he was calling them. He was tremendously well spoken considering how many fights he had, including a few real tough ones like the John Veradosa fight O'Grady retired off of or his first big step up against the like force that was Danny Lopez.
I'm actually all for this... where's the sign up paperwork and where do I get one?

I always liked Sean, who I think gets sold a little short sometimes...I liked him a lot when he stepped up to the plate and whipped Hilmer Kenty to win a portion of the lightweight title....and admired his guts in that bloody (his blood) to ko Shig Fukuyama...

No, never seen this one. I didn't have access to cable in Feb. 1990. I lived in a fraternity house that was not wired for cable until August 1990.

I do remember watching Oba Carr v. Livingstone Bramble on TNF at my frathouse

That straight right only traveled a foot or so and got there much faster than the attempted right uppercut......fight over. That was cool the way Street fell in sections....TIMBER.

They had a lot of action main events. I loved the Blue Horizon fights.

As far as overall quality, I thought ESPN Top Rank Boxing was better.

ESPN Friday Night Fights was never as good as ESPN Top Rank Boxing in my opinion.

Just actually gave this fight a watch, and all I can say is wow... I had heard this fight passingly mentioned years ago in some discussions regarding the bloodiest fights of all time, or the worst cuts of all time, something like that. Someone nominated this bout and it stuck in my mind forever as a kind of footnote. And boy, that is a gusher of a cut... and so very Rocky like, the entire nature of the cut and then the doctor inspection, the it's only a scratch one liner, then a rally to grasp victory from the clutches of defeat.

O'Grady also always looked so damned BIG in the ring. You can hardly think of a fight where he doesn't make his opposition look small in comparison. What the hell was up with the mans weight cutting procedure? Did he do it to purpose to have a huge physical advantage? Was that really just the normal weight O'Grady was making?

Scanning box rec, I saw that both these guys beat Lionel Butler. Butler improved late on and had some good wins, especially the one round ko of Tony Tubbs,

I love going to boxrec and linking fighters up like that. Creates a sort of big web in my head. It's always interesting to see how careers panned out in the long run, and it's always a bit of a bummer to look up fighters that seemed like they had all the potential in the world but it just never came together for them.... and they never even gained the type of shots a Joe Hipp level fighter wound up getting. Boxing's a funny game.
