I was thinking earlier about British fighters who never really made it to the top but were involved in classic bouts with world level guys. The one that sticks out and one I'll always remember was Shea Neary v Mickey Ward. Does anyone remember this one? It was a pure classic and Neary had Ward hurt a number of times if I remember rightly. Great scrap it was.
I was watching Don Curry - Terry Norris the other night- awesome fight... 0 brits but worth a mention.
I know it isn't really underated...but...when people talk about great Nigel Benn fights they think Eubank/G-Man, actually best fight I ever saw involving Benn was against Watson, that was super exciting and entertaining.
Johnny Owen's tragic bid for the world title,he gave everything, including his life, still brings a tear to my eye.
Brodie-Swain? Dunne-Ayers? Lueshing-Saunders? Alexander-Samuals? Samuals-Williams? Ashley-Booth? and the best of all...Mcmillan-Ingle.... watch it again knowing what you know now... best domestic fight before Gomez-Arthur.
