Classic's Thoughts On Antonio Tarver?

A victim of poetic justice ... he beat a Jones shot from blowing up and then losing too much weight and lost to Hopkins for the same reason ...

 

Hmm he was a decent fight but not a great one.

he willbe remembered the same way Buster Douglas, clearly a world class talent who pulls off a massive upset, but would struggle against the best as hop and Dawson showed. Prime RJJ def beats him clearly.

 

No, you can't "easily" make a case for that. Tarver did **** all during rounds 3-6. Outside of those, the fight was pretty much even or perhaps Tarver's by a round, but he gave those rounds away and Jones clearly took the fight.

The fact that Tarver not only lasted but gave Jones a hard time caused some people to say that he should've won, but in reality, it was a close but clear loss. I'd like to see a scorecard where Tarver wins.

 

He was a good fighter, but basically as champions go just an average champ that did not enjoy a distinguished reign. I'll give him credit for knocking out Jones but that really is what his entire career hinges on legacy-wise.

I had Jones a two point winner there and never felt Tarver did enough to win it.

 

Exactly. The disappointment of this fight is that i felt Tarver could've taken him if he fought rounds 3-6 the way he fought the other rounds. Maybe he needed a breather or was intimidated by the speed, but it seemed he was just lack luster and happy to even be competitive, while he could've been more than that.

 

Roy Jones in that second fight, had his best round ever against Antonia Traver in the first round.

People need to give Antonio Tarver more credit for beating Roy Jones.....

i think tarver is alot of hot air to be honest

he had the skills but something was missing form him that i cant put my finger on

 

He is the kind of fighter who future anoraks who specialise in his era will see as unloved in his own time.

I am fairly confident of that whether their view would be misguided or not.
