In my opinion it's for any retired fighter or a historical placement for a modern fighter, so in my estimation, "where does Pacquiao rank all time at welterweight" is a legitimate (if silly) question. But this is a community, and that's just me
My scant knowledge of the sport is pretty much limited to the late 70's on although I am keen to know more,as such it is hard for me to place the fighters I know in any historical context also this part of ESB can be intimidating for those like myself who are not experts.
Never let that bother you. Intelligent questions are mostly welcome and you can get lucky and get a guy in that area who feels like spraffing. Its guys who ask and then pretend they know more than they do at the back of it that tend to get the bullet.
same here man. i'll tell you this: i felt the same way as you some time ago. then i got a pep talk from flea and i ****ing love the classic now. like mcgrain said, don't talk **** and pretend you know what you don't and you stand to learn more than you can imagine. i still don't know sweet **** all but the people on this forum, no ****, are the best teacher's in the sport and if you pay attention, you'll be swimming in information
I personally spend far more time reading than posting. It actually surprises me regarding the memories of most posters, relative to mine. I'm 47 and have been following boxing since I was a kid, but I don't remember most of Holmes', or Tyson's, or even Lewis's opponents, or what there records were going into these fights..so the specific knowledge many of these posters have, even if they use Boxrec to refresh their memories, continues to amaze me.
I feel the same, but I honestly think I'd have a stroke if I set foot in general. I quite like the odd thread about modern fights in classic, as I actually want to hear the opinion of knowledgable posters not the usual mongs and fanboys.
I go back and forth on this fight. If Mayweather uses his legs and keeps distance, he'll make an eays night of it. The reason why is because Mosley's footwork has never been great, and it's been downright bad in recent fights. If Mayweather goes on the bicycle, then Mosley has to catch up to him, get his feet planted, actually connect, then chase Floyd down all over again. Things is, Floyd has been less mobile and more about staying in the pocket and deflecting punches as he has moved up in weight. If Mayweather stays in the pocket, then he risks Shane roughing him up, bullying him, winning on aggressiveness or just hitting him with a bomb. If Mayweather runs, he should be able to pick Shane off, despite getting hit with the occasional shot and take a boring decision. If he doesn't, it's a toss-up. Shane will win a couple of rounds early, before Mayweather makes adjustments. Shane will be more aggressive, which could tip the judges to him. Shane will certainly outwork him, again scoring points with the judges. So really, it all depends on whether Mayweather goes mobile, or he tries to play stationary defense like he did in the first half or so against De La Hoya. If he does that, Shane can certainly win.
Mayweather to outmanouver, potshot and counter his way to victory. I wouldn't be suprised if he uses the jab more to control the fight
