Wonder how Clay felt post fight after Frazier beat the sh!t out of him? Remember, Frazier cancelled the requirement that Clay had to crawl across the ring and tell him that Frazier was the Greatest after Clay lost.
The first time I saw him speaking after the fight, he said he thought that he won ten of the fifteen rounds.
Oh, you must not have heard. Quite understandable, as it wasn't a big deal or anything, but he changed his name to Ali. Muhammad Ali, actually. Converted to Islam, don't cha know?
I was at that fight [FOTC} MSG 1971,and there was so much electricity in the air from the prelims to the main event...At the knockdown of Ali, the crowd went berserk and the decision in favor of Frazier was a foregone conclusion expected by the crowd... Truly a night to remember for me as my two buddies bought me a ticket without my knowledge...A helluva surprise !
well ali kept claiming that he won the fight and that he was robbed he was pretty pissed at the outcome
I was at the FOTC also with my brother-in- law. Upper tier for $25! Nothing since could ever compare to the anticipation of that fight. There was never a doubt that Joe won. If I remember correctly, Ali hit Joe with some good shots after getting up from the knockdown.
Clay never legally changed his name. His name is still Cassius Marcellus Clay. He publicly refused to make a legal name change. Muhammad Ali is an assumed name or an alias. No one is ethically compelled to refer to a person by a false name.
I'm sure you are a fan of William Harrison Dempsey. Is that what we should call him? How about Jack Sharkey or Benny Leonard or Joe Gans? What about Walker Smith Jr.? Marvelous is (or was) a legal part of Marvin Haglers name. Are we ethically compelled to call him that?
