Im about 148lbs, I wanna bulk up to around 160, I usually focus on compound lifts, eg, Deadlift, Bench, Squats, etc and then throw in some isolation excercises after, I know to bulk up requires taking in good calories from protien, however, how much bodyfat could i end up gaining even though i bulk up cleanly?
Depends on your genetics and what other supps u r taking in. this generally a bit hard to do as gaining muscle AND cutting fat is very difficult to do without time and the right program, diet, and supps.
As El Puma already mentioned, unless your extremely genetically gifted, you are going to end up gaining fat as well as muscle if your trying to gain the 12 pounds in a short amount of time. I myself gained 25 pounds in 5 months, but it came at a cost. While my mass went up amazingly, my abs were almost gone. So if your willing to sacrifice your abs and some definition, I will give you my workout and my diet plan to get that big. If your trying to gain that over a 10-12 month period without putting on fat it's possible, but you must follow a strict diet and drink tons of water, cold water if possible and try to limit any other activity besides lifting. Let me know which one you want if your interested, I got both plans from my athletic training booklet, when I worked at fitness place a couple years back.
Floyd Patterson put on 7 pounds of muscle in between his fights with Johansan. He did it in 12 months. Be advised.
Its impossible to Bulk and lose bodyfat, even with the right foods, its simply impossible because of the overall surplus of calories, i know this, I dont mind doing a slow bulk, infact i would even prefer to do a slow bulk mainly because of the bodyfat issue.
then how do you explain Bernard Hopkins ? he gained I believe 15 pounds in what 7,8 weeks for Tarvers fight and I didn't see any fat gained. he still looked good. and he gained that much when doing cardio and boxing workout which must have been twice as hard. When I try to gain mass, the first place where you can tell I am gaining mass is my chin and cheeks. Seriously everybody notices it right a way. and then I get the " oh you'r face is rounding up" type of comments. I know I am at my natural weight when I don't feel double chin when I bow my head and my cheeks are flat not chubby.
