Clean punching should NOT be prioritized over the other categories

But by having a good defense you deny your opponent to score.

You shouldn't be awarded twice.

 

A fighter throws a 4 shot combo.Lands 2 clean and the other fighter slips the other 2.Is that even.I don't think so

 

All OP points don't apply to wilder though, who without ko power has been outboxed by mediocre fighters.
Or Ward whose defence is mainly clinching, rabbit punching, head butt, elbow and low blow.
Ironic that's it's only apply to feather fisted Mayweather, whose btw retired and not missed.

As far as I'm aware, all judges score fights differently or rather different judges value certain things more than other things. There is no set scoring system. If there was fans and judges score cards would all be much closer.

Also, pressure alone is rarely if ever marked into scoring, effective pressure is what will register as points. Some judges value it more than others, while some judges value counter punching and making a fighter miss more. If it was pressure alone why would anyone bother fighting off the back foot or work towards becoming a counter puncher? That would be like a basketball player specifically shooting the ball from 18 feet from the hoop to just inside the three point line. Just bad efficiency even if they are hitting the shots.

 

Also, if a fighter is Knocked Down, he doesn't automatically lose the round, he loses a point. If a fighter wins the majority of the round or dominates a round besides when they were knocked down, it will be scored a 9-9 round. You lose a point every time you are knocked down in a round. If a judge sees the round as totally even, they can score it 10-10, and if they think a fighter dominated the round but there were NO Knock Downs they can still score the round 10-8, though rare.

 

Landing clean punches is pretty much the best defined judging criteria and is valued more by more judges than any other criteria, and it's also pretty much agreed upon as the most aesthetically pleasing part of boxing or part of scoring criteria.

That said, a boxing match is still a fight, so matches aren't always going to be aesthetically pleasing nor should they be, a fight - any type - by nature usually isn't very pretty and not all boxers will have an aesthetically pleasing style.

Basically, if clean punching was universally valued more than any other scoring criteria, Mexicans wouldn't give a **** about competing in boxing or watching boxing.

 

"hit and don't get hit" is part of the art form not all of it the most important part is entertaining the public especially for the boxers themselves because the public pay their bills because why should fighters put their lifes on the line for chump change, if it changes to the why you want it then boxers mentality will change to be more defensive then 90% of the public will turn off because they won't be any exciting fights anymore

 

Werent you that guy arguing about how Canelo won the fight or deserved a draw for his clean punching? Or was that somebody else, I dont remember
