Cleaner ATG ever ?

It’s hard to tell with the footage but I think Emile Griffith and Jose Napoles both - even perhaps Monzon? But it’s been some time.

 

Larry Holmes.
I didn't notice that he boxed dirty.
But they blame him for avoiding the best contenders during his reign.
People will always find some fault; to every boxer.
If we look at it that way - there is no clean ATG.

 

I know of only one occasion where an opponent ( Leroy Jones ) suffered a retina injury due to a thumb by Larry Holmes. Not sure if it was intentional or accidental. But that’s probably the closest thing to “ dirty “ that I know of about the Easton Assasin

 

I never heard ant complaints about Duke McKenzie.

 

Monzon could use some rough tactics up close.

 

I don’t know, I think “rough tactics” are just the way inside fighting is. Anything he did in particular you might be referring to?

 

The usual. Holding and hitting, elbows for framing. But yeah it's part of inside fighting.

 

Holmes was renowned for thumbing, it stuck with him for years. Intentional or not he had a habit of throwing the jab with an open glove and it caught plenty of people in the eye socket.

 

Alexis Arguello would be the first name to come to mind personally.

 

Mike Dyson.

 

Larry Holmes' nickname in the gym was 'Tom Thumb', so he's not to be considered here.
