lol. when Floyd fought Ndou in grand rapids in 03 they had to give away tickets to make it look good. From what I heard the fight did like 2300 paid. The rest was all paper..........
What the **** are you talking about ... Floyd sold out a 12,000 + seat arena ... against a fighter who no one cared to know about ... the VanAndel Arena was packed that night and all the local bars had the fight ... the city of Grand Rapids shuts down when Floyd fights ... hell even the movie theater has his fights on the big movie screens. You need to get you facts straight ... And for the record -- If the seats at Michigan Stadium were 1/2 empty that would still equal 55,000 fans ... and i'm sure 2/3 of the state of Michigan would show up. Hell I think if Floyd had a fight at Michigan Stadium more than 1/2 the seats will be sold and it would be one of the biggest boxing events ever to be held in the state. When you have one of the best boxers in the world from your hometown ... your home state ... that give people a sense of pride and will make them show ... i'm sure that most of Grand Rapids will be there as well.
It doesn't matter how many fans you can attract at a big venue, because any fighter with a name can put buts in seats ... when you can bring 7-10,000 fans to small markets like Idaho or Oregon ... then you know that you have a decent fan base.
More people are tuning in to see Floyd fight to either see him win or the possibility of him losing ... Thats bigger than bringing casual fans to a popular event --
You have to factor in ... the seats on the football field ... I think if Floyd had a fight at Michigan Stadium ... he would sell a minimum of 70,000 seats and would possibly sell out - depending on the pricing of the seats and the opposition he was facing. I assure you guys that don't think so, but if Floyd and Cotto were to lock up in MI and it was held at Michigan stadium ... all 110,000 plus stadium seats would be sold in addition to the hundreds of seats that would be on the football field surrounding the ring.
Nonsense. Mayweather is big now in the U.S. The reason the fight made economic sense is that Hatton is a draw in the U.K. Great idea, but one shouldn't discount Mayweather's draw in America. (and actually this is justified given the fact that he is the most talented guy out there) - Jason
"I think only UM can fill the Big House" You are probably right, but we have to think about the difference in how big (and how economically powerful) the countries are. Mayweather has niche fans all over America. Hatton has fans spread out over a narrow demographic that are more likely to attend his fights locally. Mayweather draws the PPV fans from around the United States. - Jason
its hatton and the brits, they all stick together like flies on ****.hatton is a young decent boxer with 1 loss so he is there hereo.its suppose to be that way.
If that was the case then why wasnt Oscar vs Tito bigger, how about Vargas, Mosley, Hopkins???? Clearly this is another case of Floyd haters being blind to the facts...Floyd vs Oscar was the BIGGEST money fight in the history of boxing...If it had nothing to do with Floyd then one of Oscar's many other PPV would have been bigger. Seeing that he has fought fan favorites as I listed.:good
