Chavez Jr is the biggest load of fluff I've seen in some time. Fight of the year my arse, he was always going to get handled. Everyone knew/knows chavez jr can't fight at that level but want to jump on a ****ing mexican band wagon. if you see that last round he was still handled by a half knocked out fighter. He is the problem with vegas boxing and to see him still getting hyped is a huge disappointment from an outside view.
A move up to smw would be like a 3 years step back in his performance: he was not so big and stronger than his opponents and he was struggling with C level fighters and winning decisions... He is stronger and tougher than most of mw, but the difference won't be as big in smw. IMO this is the reason because he is not moving up in weigh.
20+?? Are you suggesting Sergio put on NO weight after the weigh in?? Its probably much closer to 10. If he can make 160 he should stay at middleweight. Simple as that. Same reason Ortiz should stick at Welterweight if he can.
Well, If Chavez jr can make 160, Should be fine. He weighed in at 158 against Martinez at the Weigh In.
Sergio probably walked into the ring a little over 170lbs, Chavez has been known to be over 180lbs, though some experts estimated him at 190lbs. We'll never know for sure because Chavez refused to step on a scale. The question isn't whether he can continue to make 160 weigh-ins, the question is whether he's doing so legally. If he is, then he's a freaking hero. But there's alot of money behind this guy and people will bend and break alot of rules to keep that money coming.
Let's just be real. If Chavez Jr moved up to 168, he loses a lot of pretty much the main aspect of his game, which is just size and strength that can't be matched as he blows up to Cruiserweight size on fight night. Not only that, the competition level is a lot higher in general at 168, with the exception of Martinez, the Middleweight division is relatively weak, while Super Middleweight has Ward, Kessler, Froch, and Bute, not to mention the second tier fighters like Bika, Dirrell, Andrade, Pavlik, and Abraham, plus rising prospects like Edwin Rodriguez, George Groves, and James DeGale. If Jr moves up to Super Middleweight, he gets waxed the second he steps up.
Its not heroic. some guys can just do that. Ortiz, Clottey, Gatti, even Pacquiao use to weigh over 140 when he fought at 126. Like ive said repeatedly here, what JCC does isnt that unusual
Cause ward schooled froch, means jnr can? Different types of fighters, Froch would take him out within the distance. Far, far too experienced and ring savvy for young jnr. Better than him in every department apart from working the body.
JR can do well at 168. He won't be fighting Ward/Froch or Bute any time soon so why not test the waters? Put him in with Miranda and see how it goes. No way he is able to make 160 once he gets his face all healed.
