I voted under rated technique..... I think its a part of the game as long as its not TOO much holding i am in favor of holding

Acceptable as a SUPPLEMENT to actual boxing, not as a replacement for it - like Ruiz does.

I agree, too much can just be a bore to watch. Lot's of fighters have used it affectively in the past and i don't have anything against it.

i think as long as your actually boxing while your holding i dont have any problems with holding

    bhop vs pavlik
    froch vs dirrell
    berto vs urango

3 fights that had a lot of holding... i didnt really have any problem with any of these fights tho... although berto vs urango was boring as ****

Exactly. :thumbsup It's all about moderation; it should never be the tempo of a fight to have constant clinching.

There is an art to clinching as a defensive move, and even an offensive move for fighters who are deft at fighting in the clinch (see Hatton). But the one-punch-and-grab employed by Ruiz in every fight is detestable.

I think it is an underrated boxing technique. This can be seen in a lot of Manny Stewards fighters that just don't know how to clench when in trouble. I think there are a couple of criteria though:

    01. The guy clenching is working effectively when not in a clench.
    02. The clench is used to neutralize the offense of the opponent and released immediately on the break. (Non of that ref pulling you off like a barnacle ish.)
    03. The clench is not used for extended periods of "trouble" or exhaustion. (at that point you get a standing eight count)

Clenching is cool, but it can make fights ugly. Nothing worse than two clinching heavyweights, hahaha.

I agree. I don't count hit-and-hold as clinching. I think that's just down right cheating.

I hate the ****ing clinching. That why i love when Cotto fight and i hate to see Hopkins fight. Its a coward way to escape from getting counter punch.
