Canelo isn't impressive point blank period

Plant made him look like a one dimensional plodder with a little footwork. Just didn't have any output to make it a fight. He came to lose on points.

If Bivol accepts a points defeat going into survival mode because of a few bad rounds he should retire also.

And yet, it's not skill alone that determines anyone's P4P lists anymore. Good try...

Plant hadn't beaten anyone or fought anywhere near that level or on a stage of that magnitude

BJS 2.0 looked like crap at 168, won the belt against a janitor who hurt him badly (remember his name? Of course you don't) and went life and death against another janitor who you'd never heard of before. He'd never fought on a stage of that magnitude either

Callum Smith who Canelo won two belts against was coming off a scandalous robbery win over Juan Ryder and shouldn't have even have held a belt. His claim to fame is beating a one-armed injured past prime George Groves who shouldn't have even been in a ring that night. He'd never fought on a stage of that magnitude either and he had a short camp and poor sparring

Yildirim - don't even go there, Serge

Kovalev was a shell of his former self, threw pitty pats all night, and he had a short camp and came within a whisker of suffering his third stoppage loss in his previous fight in his last six fights. That shell of Kov was boxing his ears off until his vodka tank ever so predictably ran dry in the second half of the fight and even then the judges were going to rob him blind had it not. Prime Kov would've knocked Clenelo's head into the Stratosphere

Jacobs fight was close and the rehydration clause killed him. He looked like a corpse on crack at the weigh in

Clen slapped a rehydration clause on Rocky From Stocky but he wants Usyk at 200lbs

GGG was robbed in both their fights even though he was well past his best and Clen was jacked silly on PEDs

Almost everyone Clen has fought since he moved up from 154 and Clenelo weigh has never fought on a stage close to that magnitude before and neither has Bivol but he's the best Clen opponent since GGG

Isn't that interesting though. So it used to be all about skill, historically, but over time it "changed"? How'd it change?

Great resume if he beats Bivol. A few years ago nobody thought Canelo would ever step in the ring with Bivol. Now he hardly gets credit for taking on the challenge and will get even less credit if he wins. But beating Bivol would be a huge accomplishment.

Yup, fans are fickle, especially in regards to Canelo, always moving the goalposts on him. But fan sentiment only goes so far, at the end of the day this is the biggest and most difficult match for Canelo since GGG, and that's something to be hyped about.

Don't know why Canelo gets flack for using PEDs.

Pretty much all top athletes use PEDs. You're naive if you think otherwise.

I thought we had all just accepted that top athletes using PEDs was an open secret.

Canelo is a manufactured fighter just like Floyd, except Canelo can at least FIGHT!!! The dark clouds will forever hang over both. What would they have accomplished without the "help" of the Commission, USADA, Vegas boxing & their suspicious officials ?? Not half what their lemming like fans claim.
Yos Bivol may well win the fight but he sure as heck will not get the decision

Nothing's changed. Like I said, what's the criteria? No one agrees on any, so any list is just fanboy fiction.

Canelo is a good fighter. He can definitely fight. Sure there's a lot of smoke and mirrors and corruption surrounding his career but the kid can fight. Having the judges in his pocket all the time, all the gifts he's received from them, his long history of crazy wide cards in his favour, his PED addiction, the weakening of his opponents at the negotiating table, and the deck stacking to such a degree that he's literally rolling with loaded dice quite rightly doesn't sit at all well with the vast majority of righteous fans and that extends to millions of his own countrymen too. But the kid can fight his buttocks off.

But he the A side doe.

    Get the hell outta here!

Who gives a poop about that kind of poop?

Go get some integrity already you goddamn ginger demon lovers. What's right is right and what's wrong is wrong and defending what's wrong is wrong not right and deep down you know I'm right about that.

Are you ******ed? How many top athletes in boxing were caught?

If you're dumb enough to get caught you should pay for it.

    https://www.sportslingo.com/sports-glossary/p/pound-for-pound/

The term pound for pound refers to how good a boxer or MMA fighter is based on their overall skill, not their weight class.

    https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/boxing-pound-pound-rankings-180004631.html

The criteria for the list: Who would win a fight if everyone weighed the same and all of their skills and physical attributes were proportional.

    https://www.linealboxingchampion.co...t-does-the-term-pound-for-pound-actually-mean

Traditionally, this was how the term was generally applied. Visualise two fighters being the same weight, and based on talent and skill which boxer would be victorious?

In the traditional sense, it's a measure of one's talent and skill. How you rate and compare a boxer's attributes to other boxer's attributes independent of their weight. If that criteria has changed, and it's become "fanboy fiction" then the problem is that it's deviated from what it's supposed to be about.

This is something that I've noticed over time and on many occasions tried to bring it back to what it's supposed to be about : a measure of skill, talent, with a focus on recent performances. Many "fanboys" if you will try to make it more about resume, which is important to judge how a fighter performs against a high level of opposition, or even results (judges decisions) but that isn't the basis of what it's supposed to be about. It's mainly about how you rate a boxer's skill set, talent and effectiveness as a fighter, their capabilities, their versatility, their mentality, their ability to have success against different styles.

So in conclusion, Pound for pound ratings aren't fact based, but at its core, it's supposed to be a list of who has the best skills, talent, and boxing attributes, who is more capable and effective as a fighter. Experience, resume, results, records all play into that, but that's not what it should be based upon. Traditionally, it's a rating of who fans and boxing aficionados rate in terms of skill and talent, anotherwords who are the best boxers in the world independent of weight. Taking weight and size out of it, so rating the best boxers on a "per pound" basis.
