    Anyone wanna post a scorecard?

Williams won the fight in my opinion. He decked Terrell and had him holding on several times. Terrell came on at the end, but he hit on the break and threw some rabbit punches that were characteristic of his style of fighting. Ernie moved and boxed well but also clutches too often. I gave Williams the huge edge in power shots.

Robbed? No. Whether you had Terrell (as I did) or Williams winning it was a close fight. Close fights arent robberies.

A very hard fought fight by two heavyweights in excellent shape, better than they make today.

I had Terrell clearly winning the first two rounds but every round after that was much harder to score. In close rounds I go with the guy landing most punches and Ernie always landed more punches. His jab landed all night. Williams took round 7 when Ernie had a breather but a lot of the fight was quite rough with Ernie mauling and using his shoulder inside which seemed to neutralise Williams -if a bit unfairly.

Williams hurt Terrell in round 3 and round 5 but both times Terrell came slugging back to take the play away. Round 6 Williams was in trouble from hard flurry’s that had him hanging on.

I scored 7-1-2 for Terrell. But it was so hard fought.

Ernie Terrell and Cleveland Williams scored on Philly's 5 point must system.

    Round 1: 5-4 Terrell
    Round 2: 5-4 Williams
    Round 3: 5-4 Williams
    Round 4: 5-4 Terrell
    Round 5: 5-4 Williams
    Round 6: 5-4 Terrell
    Round 7: 5-5 Even
    Round 8: 5-4 Terrell
    Round 9: 5-4 Terrell
    Round 10: 5-4 Williams

    46-45 Terrell

Chok, I had it a bit closer than you, but I do agree there were a lot of close rounds.

Was this the era when ET was sparring some with Liston?

I came up with the same score as the two judges who went for Terrell (46-44) with Terrell taking six rounds.

Terrell's left jab scored all the way through, and he got his overhand right home often. Williams, except in the 7th, didn't seem to try to match the jabs, and generally missed with his right. His was basically a left hook fight. On the plus side for Williams, he was the only one going to the body, and it did appear to take a lot out of Terrell.

*Interestingly, my take is Williams might well have taken a fifteen rounder either by decision or by late round stoppage.

But, sorry, I think this was a fair decision.

Yes that’s still a good card. There are no right or wrong rounds. When rounds are very close you make a decision based on what kind of work you feel makes the greater impact. Pressure or scoring. I could easily have scored it your way on another occasion.

Ernie was the house fighter and had some backing. Williams sure didn't. And the guys with minimal backing have a very tough time getting their hand raised in any kind of close bout.

Any film of the first fight? I have no idea why Sonny Liston ( an active fighter ) was the ref.

Talk about bull****. Both guys had fought in Philadelphia once before. How was Ernie the house fighter? Williams was far more well known and managed by a powerful millionaire businessman with ties to both Ring Magazine and Boxing Illustrated. How was he any less connected than Terrell??

Looks like most in favour of Terrell winning.
