Williams's credentials as a fighter should be questioned.

His credentials as a puncher should not.

Who is "they" and what was Williams second best KO victim?

It's a bit of the tree falling in the wilderness and no one around to hear it. If he couldn't put that vaunted power to effect against elite heavies, is it really still power?

Liston's resume of ranked fighters that he KO'd is much, much deeper, than Williams'

Yes, but it is still possible that Williams hit harder.

Power isn't everything, or even half the battle.

I know the old boys but memory escapes me. Was the #1 KO victim you refer to Terrell? Don't think that's available for viewing as well as the Shavers-Young 'KO'.

Big Cat could bang but he had a myriad of minuses hung all over him...

Cleveland did not hit Frankie Daniels hard enough. Sonny Liston did.

    Who did Williams beat?

He went 1-1 (1 KO) vs. Ernie Terrell and he drew with Eddie Machen. He was stopped 8 times... Bob Satterfield KO3, Sonny Liston KO3 and KO2, Muhammad Ali KO3, Al Jones KO8, Mac Foster KO5 and KO3, and Alvin Blue Lewis KO4. Where is the evidence that he was a harder puncher than Liston? Even if he was, so what? Williams wasn't very good, totally overrated!

I'm still confused about the video of Williams getting slaughtered by Ali... what does that prove?

I hate all the credit Ali gets for beating Williams, who was slow, uncoordinated, and wide open in their fight. Holmes, Foreman, Tyson, K brothers, Frazier, and many, many others would have done the same thing.

Liston dealt with Frankie Daniels in a single round where as in the same year Frankie Daniels took Williams all the way to ten round points decision.Twice! Therefore Sonny is the better puncher.

To be fair, a lot of those losses were when he was faded toast.

I think it was Sonny Liston who estimated that Cleveland hit AS HARD or harder than himself.

    Pinch salt, etc.

Yeah but he his record is so padded when he was in his "prime" that it seems a convenient excuse that the instant he steps up his competition and looks bad he is past his prime.

Thats true but then who gives a ****. Im sure there is some dumb schlub out there who could punch harder than anyone who ever lived but he wasnt a boxer so at the end of the day if, and its a big "if", Williams hit harder than Liston, so what? Does he get some sort of a prize? What did that supposed marginal edge in power accomplish for him? Not a whole lot seeing as how he never even made it to #1 in the rankings.
