    "was he really that young?"

According to boxrec (and other sources I have found) Pat Comiskey was born on October 27, 1920. He fought Max Baer on September 26, 1940. That makes him 19, one month short of his 20th birthday.

There seems to have been real momentum behind him at this point.

Baer basically saved him from a meeting with Louis!

He must have been a Corn Griffin type of character. Was the media sold on Comiskey before he had done much?

    It seems so.

There was shock at the way that the ageing Baer dispatched him!

Not fair to compare him to Griffin though, because he was a legitimate contender.

He beat Lee Oma when that meant something for example.

He also beat Omilio Agramante when he was still decent as well.

Is he still living? That would make him 97 in 6 days.

No Comiskey died in 1989 after a battle with Alzheimer's.

He had been business agent and vice Precident for a construction union, body guard to Lou Costello, bit part actor in several big movies and at one time a "personal friend" of Marilyn Monroe.

Comiskey fought Joe Louis twice with 8oz gloves in exhibitions. Aparently Louis told pat in 1966 that he had hit him harder than anyone else.

I would take these sorts of comments with a healthy grain of salt. I think this is probably just graciousness on Louis' part.

Louis would take Williams out in 2 or 3 rounds at most.
