1. Sharkey already beat Carnera and was passed it the 2nd time. which is why he only had 6 bouts in the remainder of his career and only won 2 of them. 2. Their are rumors their bout was fixed, and judging by Carnera's past fixed fights, I wouldn't doubt it. 3. Carnera isn't in the hall of fame. Cleveland is. 4. Cleveland is in the better half the ring's top 100 puncher list.... Carnera is nowhere to be found. 5. Many thought Terrell deserved the decision in his SD loss to contender Bethea two years prior. 6. Terrell and especially Machen would run circles around Carnera. He couldn't dream of a KO win, a disputed SD loss or a draw against them no matter how many bouts he has with them. Are you going to dispute that?
1. Don't care. still better then Ernie. 2, Rumours it was fixed, you might believe that? I like how he fixed it by going out in the most brutal fashion possible. 3. Hall of fame is worthless, Carnera had a better career undeniably. 4. Don't care. 5. Amazing you try to salvage his win over the great Terrell... 6. Not relevant. Clev fought nothing like either.
This forum has an obsession with Cleveland Williams. His record doesn’t justify half the attention he gets or the mythical wins he would achieve.
Who did he "mop the floor" with to make you think he handles Sharkey and Schmeling so easily? And Louis does him like he did the Baer brothers.
LOL. It's because he had a muscular body, look at all the usual suspects in the fruity physique threads who talk him up.
You're an idiot if you think that version of Sharkey is better than a near prime Terrell. Hell I'd take Terrell over any Sharkey. Nearly 1/3 of the people who voted in the poll thought the KO was fake. https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/gif-carnera-ko-sharkey-fake.655779/ The film isn't clear, and their were multiple things, including death and kidnapping threats that raise suspicions as Mcvey points out, and even most of the posters who voted for it's legitimacy thought their was a chance it was fake. Well on one hand, we have multiple respected historians who have Williams in their top 50, sometimes as high as 28, and don't even put Carnera in their top 100. On the other hand we have you, a joke, who thought Bonavena was leading Ali 9-3 saying otherwise. Of course you don't because it contradicts your laughable theory that Carnera had an undeniably better career. I don't need to "salvage" his win over Terrell who was near prime when he was knocked out by Williams. What the hell are you talking about .... this time?
1/3 are wrong then. We aren't talking about punching power, hall of fame standing, ring rankings for punchers... We are discussing who the superior fighter is, based on what we have. Those are all irrelevant opinionated things. Sharkey the version Nera beat was coming off a win from a guy called Max Schemling. Who was the best guy Terrel beat when Williams got him? Go ogle at Clevs body some more in those fruity physique threads that pop up like clockwork.
We have a thing for left hook throwers, too. Tua, Cooney, Williams, Morrison. Say what you like about Williams as a fighter. The guy looked very impressive throwing his fast left hooks. Perhaps Williams hits a forum sweet spot. Black and white film, but looks big and muscular enough to be a 90s fighter. Fought very close to the sacrosanct 70s. Really nice left hook. Puncher. Awesome excuse for his later losses. Fought little guys and big guys, thereby validating small heavyweight competitiveness. If Williams didn't exist in reality, someone would have to invent him. He's as much a forum character as Boston Tom McMustache and Mysterious Billy Pickles.
I think Max Baer Schmeling and Louis knock him out. Has a chance to upset the others. Key word being chance. He tended to blow all his big matches.
