Well Cleve certainly falls into the Lyle / Foster / Shavers good Hitter - not so good Chin catagory, that Jerry could Exploit, Mobility had a lot to do with it, Jerry could Outmanauvere this type and dictate when and where the exchanges took place, I must confess i am mightily impressed by Cleve, for 2 rounds against Liston 1st, - before the roof fell in, I think Jerry has the Skills and Mobility to Ride out Cleve's Early Storms, Then when Jerry starts to Hammer home the Combinations on Cleve later on, i can not see the rather Upright Cleve coming through it - It looks to me in my minds eye rather like a Mac Foster replay - as Cleve does not for me have Lyle's toughness to endure to the Final Bell.
The Cat has two options IMO: 1) Come out aggressively smokin' like he did against Liston, get Jerry into a slugging match and literally draw first blood. 2) Sit back a bit and use that huge reach to box Quarry, who could be outboxed, and pick his shots. Obviously, the deeper the fight goes, the worse things get for Williams.
Quarry feasted on fighters like Williams, although Williams is somewhat faster than, say, Lyle. Still, i'd go with Quarry by decision or TKO.
Quarry by a 9th round tko. As ChrisPontius just said, heavyweights like Williams were Quarry's meat. It would have been an impressive showing for Jerry.
I think Quarry could win. Maybe by a KO. Possibly in the 7 and a half-th round...? Most likely on a Tuesday.
I could see Williams maybe cutting Quarry up. He had the speed and power to do it. I think Quarry would probably knock him out though after a few rounds going in William's favor. I can see it going late and see Quarry countering him, and have the fight change with Quarry forcing a stoppage.
Cleveland williams is considered a good fighter because Ali and Liston both had career best performances in kicking his ass. He didn't beat good fighters; when he stepped up and fought good fighters they knocked him out. Mac Foster kod him twice. So did Al 'Blue' Lewis. Quarry would walk on him.
Well he didn't but Quarry didn't beat anyone that comparable to Cleveland either. Yes he beat men who happened to be big black with a bit of a dig that were nowhere near as skilled, as quick, with nowhere near the shortness of Clevelands left hooks.
