Could the big cat that rumbled with Liston put out Moorer ? Do we see a typical MM type rock em war ?
It could be a real early shoot-out like Liston-Williams and Moorer-Cooper. However, Moorer never had the kind of jaw at heavyweight that survives this kind of tussle. I'll go with Williams in an explosive, brief encounter.
My thought as well. I feel these two are very comparable in terms of firepower, with Moorer more than likely having the more varied arsenal of punches (He could throw almost every punch extremely effectively, with both hands when necessary) with William's perhaps having a small natural size advantage. If they fought I think it would be a wild shoot out as neither as particularly durable and both always came to fight.
Stewart didn't throw his shots as well or as tight as I've seen William's do, though he has a bit on William's in size I believe.
Williams was much quicker and more of an athlete than a 40 year old Bonecrusher. He was fluid and his combinations crisp If the Big cat came out the same way he did with Liston I give him s strong chance of getting that knock out.
Moorer was a better boxer and a better overall fighter but his weaknesses play to Williams strength, a poor chin and a willingness to trade. It is a toss up match - basically the Moorer-Cooper fight all over.
I would Give Moorer the edge since he beat better opponents than Williams did. There is no Evander Holyfeild, Cooper or Alex Stewart types on his win list.
Ernie Terrell and Eddie Machen were much better than Cooper and Stewart. Williams went 1-1-1 against Terrell and Machen and has a case for 3-0
No I cant agree Ernie Terrell and Eddie Machen were better than Holyfeild. I just can’t. A draw with Machen is about as much use as Scott Frank having a draw with Renaldo Snipes. Top contenders draw. Thomas and Coetzee drew. Machen and Foley drew. It just means neither is better or worse than the other. Even so, There was a window where Williams was a good fighter. Albeit a small moment. Drawing with Machen and taking Terrell to a close decision loss meant at that point Williams could “hold his own” with top fighters. He could not surpass them. Moorer was not a particularly strong champion but he was for a time capable of being better than that -and proved it. His wins over Smith, Stewart and Cooper were exciting and emphatic wins. It was not like he was holding his own. Moorer beat them then beat Holyfeild.
Moorer by k.o. williams could sleep his @as if he lands one on mike but Moorer was much more skilled with great footwork
