They just missed each other IRL. But what if Williams had hit his prime in 52-54 and was given a title shot? Would he had been the HW king? It would be interesting to see how Rocky would have solved Williams, if he could.
It's an actual tough one. Marciano the more proven obviously at top level but Cleveland can wallop. One to think about.
This could be like Foreman-Lyle, equally exchanging but eventually one of them wil broke down. And that will happen to Williams.
This. Williams is clearly the better technician but he liked to engage and was hittable ... and had an iffy beard. The fight, while it lasted, would be exciting but I'd expect to see Marciano come out on top.
Foreman was 6'3 and 226. Lyle was 6'3 and 220. Williams has 30-40 pounds and half a foot on Marciano. Basically the same thing.
I think that the bottom line, is that Marciano has the record of somebody that you would expect to beat Williams, and Williams has the record of somebody that you would expect to loose to Marciano. When two guys just missed each other, that is probably enough to make Marciano favorite.
