Lyle is the more solid imo of the two. It will get dragged into a war and Ron will be the one standing. He may find himself on the floor but it's Lyle that's the Victor. Lyle ko 5.
I like Lyle here but it’s a 50/50 match. Lyle had comparable size, decent skills and is probably more durable which is enough to edge it for me. Good match up though.
I think it was an Williams and Lyle r an example of Lyle being more versatile, Williams having very narrow skill sets, but he's better at those skills than Lyle.
Remember as talented as Ron Lyle was, he was defeated by the likes of Jerry Quarry and Jimmy Young. And he did however give a past his peak years Muhammad Ali a tough fight on May 16 1975 before being stopped in round 11. Cleveland Big Cat Williams was stopped twice by Sonny Liston in 1959 and 1960. He did stop Ernie Terrell in 7 rounds in 1962, but dropped a close decision to Ernie in a 1963 rematch. I do think that if both were in peak form, Ron Lyle has some shaky moments early, but rallies to stop Big Cat in the 7th round.
