Cleveland Williams vs Wladimir Klitschko

Williams had quick hands probably quicker than Wlads.judging by the Liston fights.He has a punchers chance against Wlad, as does every reasonably big heavyweight who can hit,imo.

 

A man can only fight his contemporaries.

Still, I take most if not all that list over Terrell.

 

I see it Foreman v Lyle II with Wlad winning

 

Come on, Nothing. Ernie Terrell defeated Zora Folley, Eddie Machen, and Cleveland Williams when they all were still dangerous world class fighters. I could argue any of these 3 men would be at the top of Wladimir Klitschkos resume.

 

Cleveland Williams stands as the single most over-rated heavyweight of the last 50 years. Body-beautiful but fragile and under-powered (please to name me the best 3 HW's he KO'd) . He would not last 5 rounds with Wlad.

We would be eminently justified in picking Wlad here prime for prime.

An interesting twist might be if Williams had been around early in Wlad's career.

Perhaps he could have been the Sanders or Brewster figure in that scenario.

 

it would have to be very early in wlads career. Like in his his first 10 fights or so and Williams would have to be at the advantage side of his career that took so many years to get going. Even then it would take an accident to happen.

 

Sometimes you make perfect sense...........

 

For Cleavland big cat Williams to beat a great fighter fighter in a fantasy match, even one that has been knocked out in his prime, williams would have to have been at his best and Williams would have to catch the great fighter very early in his career. ie Before the great fighter became a good fighter.

Liston stopped him in the 3 round in their first fight. A more well rounded Liston stopped him in the 2nd round of their rematch.

The most impressive performances on William's resume is his 7th round stoppage of Terrell and a 10 round draw vs. Machen (in Williams hometown of Houston Texas). An improved Terrell beat Williams by SD after 10 rounds in their rematch.

Williams was stopped by LHW Bob Satterfield in the 3rd round. He was dropped twice and outboxed over 4 rounds in a decision loss to the 7-4 Sylvester Jones. Williams stopped Jones in the 7th round of their rematch.

Ali stopped him in the 3rd... yes, it was after he had been shot. Williams had won 4 fights in a row prior to facing Ali, 2 by KO... after getting shot. Williams won his next 5 fights, 4 by KO leading up to his close decision loss to Bob Cleroux... in Cleroux's back yard.

Wladimir has every advantage you can think of. W. Klitschko by KO inside of 3 rounds.

 

Terrell was 6'6" with an 82" reach and not much over 200Lbs. Good chin, fair jab when he decided to use it, decent clincher.

Terrell was not a busy fighter, he wasn't a huge puncher, and he didn't take advantage of his height and reach as well as he should have.

He decisioned Cleveland Williams in their rematch (lost to Williams by 7th round KO in their first fight). He decisioned Zora Folley, Eddie Machen, George Chuvalo, and Doug Jones. He stopped Bob Foster in the 7th round. He was beat badly by Ali (he won 2 out of 15 rounds at best).

He was better than Williams IMO but still much worse than either Klitschko.

 

Williams breaks through Wlad's defense and pummels him in the 3rd round.
