He couldn“t due to age, stamina and weight-drain. Look how much better he looked against Tarver.

Dont both the Klitschko's have doctorate degrees?

Surely that makes them the cleverest?

    I'll get my coat

    Some interesting answers.

Before some of you guys answered I was gonna say B-hop. I thought the way he tactically adjusted to his opposition and also the timing of many of his opponents was impeccable ;) .

Sven Ottke is one of my favourites to take this title as well. He sort of carved out a "great" career, well... from nothing essentially. It's the sort of thing I'd do if I was pro... Make large sums of money fighting less than stellar opposition and making sure the time was right to pick on 'em :hey .

However, I don't get why a lot of folks are going with Rocky Marciano. You'll have to explain that one :? . You do realise I'm talking about in-ring smarts, don't you :blood ?

Essentially the way Rocko fought, he was liable for brain damage :nut . I mean he really let himself be the punchbag to land 2 or 3 of his own :bokc . Now I commend that sort of bravery  ... but that's what it is, bravery :viking . I wasn't aware he did anything inside the ring that would be labelled intelligent :huh .

Agree with but Ali is pretty God Damn far from modern and Sweet Pea deserves to be mentioned. Joe Calzaghe proved he's pretty smart as well.

I don't think any modern boxer knows his way around the ring more than Bernard.

Hard to make an argument against when you consider how he's been making a fight over those tired legs of his for quite some time now...

Archie Moore........he would move around big cuban Nino Valdez in clinches/the ring so the hot havana sun would get in valdez eyes blinding him so moore could tee off on him.

Toney is a brilliant fighter, and his defense and counter punching were some of the best the sport has ever seen. But, in terms of over all cleverness.. he doesn't seem to be clever enough to stay in shape, and has lost fights simply by not trying hard enough.

My would have to go to someone like Bernard Hopkins, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard (though he screwed up the first Duran fight, and didn't know when to quit his career), and Pernell Whitaker (Who wasn't clever enough to stop smoking crack).
