Hopkins did not duck Cleverly. As a long-time Hopkins fan, I know that he never ducks anyone. Hopkins will fight anyone, anytime, and anywhere. The only ducking that occurred here is Cleverly's continued ducking of Shumenov.
Not sure about US, but in UK it would. Like it or not, Cleverly is one of the rising stars in British boxing, and given Hopkins history with Calzaghe, Hopkins knows how to sell a fight, and it being in Wales, it would sell. Add to the fact it would make Hopkins the oldest champ ever (more so).
Now i'm a Brit and I like to back our boys, but is Nathan on something? The reason Hopkins won't fight you sunshine is because nobody's heard of you.
To be fair, legend that he is, its not like Bhop is a PPV king or a huge draw is he? I could easily name 15-20 fighters who can sell more than Bhop, and his been in the game for how many years?
so ask yourself why he got fights with two of the biggest PPV fighters of his era in tito and oscar? you're right, hopkins - like roy jones - was never a PPV draw, but fighting oscar and tito picked up his profile guys like hopkins and jones bring NOTORIETY - and thats a powerful tool cleverley is just another euro fighter playing the 'fighter x wont come fight me' game, and if he doesnt learn what it takes to get big fights, he may never get one
People are mixing up 'duck' with 'I don't give a ****'. Hopkins doesn't care about Cleverly. These are the sort of people B-Hop was fighting in prison...around about the time Cleverly was swimming around in his dad's ballsack.
BHOP got fights with Tito and ODLH as a result of being MW champ/being in the Don King's MW tournament. As mentioned previously, not belittling BHOP's achievements, just stating for someone whose been in the game for over 20 years, his PPV and pulling power is rather lame. Think for his last fight with Dawson was 70k buys (taking the average figure of 40 and 100k buys). Source: http://www.doghouseboxing.com/Benz/Benz1027b11.htm
agree the PPV power is poor, but not pulling power in terms of quality fighters who have queued to fight him being 'the man', and especially with the length of his reign, is a pretty big carrot the only thing cleverley has in his favor is that hopkins is probably more inclined to chase $$ now, but for cleverley to entertain the thought that hopkins is ducking him is worrying for his future, especially if he continues to allow ****** to string him along hes lining himself up to join the graveyard of euro fighters who will never be known outside of their own country at this rate
Bhop fought 2 fights against Pascal and 2 fights against Chad recently. Those fights were for the world title. **** Cleverly. Bhop ain't 'duck' ****.
hes 47, you dipstick. Pulling power as a top level athlete at 47? Are you mad? Bernard's pension isnt far off, never mind being a top level athlete who pulls megabucks.
